EM - hud mod questions

Post by kuertee »

Hey all,
I'm building a HUD and have some questions about the files.

1. "mi2.png" is described as "bright yellow inbound missile highlight box". But the new image doesn't seem to get used in the game.

2. Do "landgreen.png" and "landred.png" need "shadow" files?

3. Which file is the cyan box that indicates the direction you are moving?

Thanks!

Hi kuertee: I'm not a modder! but I get the bright yellow inbound missile box (though it looks white) around every missile that heads in my direction - it's the only thing that lets me see the blighters coming! :)

At least one HUD mod I'm using has a "landshadow.png" file

I didn't realise that there is a box that indicates your direction - there are speed dots that stream past the window to give an indication of direction and speed for when you are intertial.

:)

 Any graphic that needs a shadow will have a shadow file showing in the kit (eg. "hudtape" and "hudtape-shadow"). And I think it's the "strafe" graphic that indicates direction of movement.

Thanks, DaveK and Marvin.

Weird that in the custom kit, there is no "landshadow.png" file nor is it mentioned in the kit's read-me.

And "strafe.png" is what I was looking for.

Only "mi2.png" is a mystery. There are "mi2.jpg" at 45x45 and "mi2.png" at 64x64 in the kit. But replacing them doesn't do anything in the game.

I found that to create a shadow, invert the files and add some blur :)

 Check that you have the latest version of the Customization Kit. Vice made changes to many of the icons so that they would show up better under a variety of backgrounds (light and dark).

For some reason mi2.png was left in a different location. It will be corrected for the next update. In the meantime, you can include a copy of the file in the \\ships folder and it should load from there. The ILS shadow was just not included in the kit after it was added to the game in an update. I have updated the customizing kit for the file and some other files that also needed updating.
