It may be an old idea but has random failures of a ships equipment been suggested? I don't mean a lost or dead in space failure but a sensor or weapon failure that can be repaired but takes a station visit or time for the ship repair and/or Engineer to fix? Thoughts?

I always liked the idea of "random failures". Any ship can have unexpected failures at anytime, could lead to interesting encounters!

lol, taking on 5 reds and suddenly the guns fail... NOT GOOD! I would have to say that the idea positively scares me. i also make a point of using my crew slots for other things so I wouldn't have an engineer fix anything that went boom.

Your guns are "overheating" or using up all the power reserves, at any rate, you need to stop 'panic firing" and just fire quick bursts. having an engineer AND a weapons officer will help among other things.
Go an MP and ask for advice on proper weapon/crew usage.
Ask the server, he knows all!

Yeah I'm with Eclipse on this one. While I would love failures that require some "working" and attentiveness if it were done in a random sense it would probably not be nearly as fun as you guys may think. Randomly flying long distances and have a fuel leak... fun. Have a fuel leak or engine power down in the middle of combat not so much.

I do not lilke random failures. They already happen with my X52 in the middle of contracts for no reason like drifting and sometimes spinning.......and every time that happens I'm cursing......

I have to admit, again, that I do not carry crew at all currently as i use the space on the frame for something else, currently a builder I think, so I don't like the idea of drifting in space because of that choice. That said adding the random failure isn't a bad idea as long as it's not catastrophic or in combat. Both of which should be easy enough to ensure doesn't happen. having a repair system could also limit the impact of this feature should it be implemented...

ROFLMAOFrom post: 99918, Topic: tid=7146, author=Marvin wrote:That gives me an idea. Why not just randomly kick your computer and await whatever failure it gives you.
Perfect response. I retract my earlier suggestion and claim a chemically induced lack of logical thought process.
My apologies.

how about a background program that randomly deletes a file on your computer every 10 seconds?

That would really suck for anyone that has a military ship. From post: 99839, Topic: tid=7146, author=Marvin wrote:The only way I can see it working without crimping the game is if it only happened when an engineer wasn't aboard.

Oasis . . . is "antagonised" a cool yoof word for "dead"?
:P
I must admit that it's pleasantly challenging enough with my own inability to combat, poor eyesight and slow reflexes without the game shafting me at random!
For the masochists, who obviously want a challenge, could we have an option to have our ships serviced at a station with a random cost and time taken instead?
;) Or perhaps they could play the game with dark glasses on, or just with one hand!:D
