modding help

Post by 42and19 »

Not sure if this goes here, but I had a few questions about how the textures are rendered in game. I want to start working on a texture, model modding project that I may or may not post here so I want to make sure that I have some info first. :)

1) How does the scaling of textures work, if at all. I was examining a planetary ring and the texture looks as if it was scaled up. Is this something the game does?

2) Do the textures have to be a specific size or will I be able to fiddle with things. One of the textures I want to do is some of the planetary ones, trying to fix some of the tiling issues that sort of bug me.

3) Can anyone suggest a program to decompile/import the .x so that I can use them in blender? It has an export option but not an import option.

Any other tips and advice would be much appreciated. I have done this sort of work for other games but each game has it's.....quirks.

You can download the customization kit from the site of em. It is really helpful, if something is not clear what i do is try to find a mod depending on what you want to mod and see the files, try them, see the result, make some experiments, etc.

Yea, I downloaded that. I was really happy to see that pack actually, a lot of other games don't do that.

I will experiment, like always. :)
