exploring

Post by gonbugin »

Ok, time to do more with myself. I am 35 sorties away from being a Captain. I have more money then I could ever spend (and if I do I can get more fast).
Time to start exploring and I need tips.

For instances; last night I set a course from Cerulean to Oylmpus and hit autopilot. Watching the Nav. Console I came to the Actarius system. So every few minutes I take the autopilot off and do a 360. If I see something bigger then the stars around I hid that way. Found the Actarius planet that way. Pretty planet; but no cities…so now what. How are you guys exploring these systems. There’s got to be a better way then every few minutes doing a 360.

Thanks

You should have been here before the auto pilot worked as well as it does now. Your fingers got tired of hitting the jump key. Exploring is still a hit and miss action. The way you are doing it will work fine just take your time and enjoy. There are things out there we still (or so I have heard) need to find.;):D:P:o:)

Welcome gonbugin.

I suggest that you use Atollskis NavData program. It keeps track of all the systems
you've gone through and also helps you find new planets.;)

Hi - I found the same problem when clicking on the link. Hanging on doesn't do anything!

However, I'm using Firefox with the "Cool Previews" add-on. If I look at the link via cool previews, I can download the files!

Hope this might helpothers (although no-one else has mentioed it as problem!!:)

Thanks SeeJay I will download it. I ready like the idea of exploring some. What little I have done is a lot of fun...I just don't feel organized about it. It would be nice to have an ingame map you could pull up with all the stuff you have explored. I use your website map a lot

Is there a problem with the link to the program? It should be www.mediafire.com/evochron

for the time being, the direct link to the 0.8 executable only is http://www.mediafire.com/?fyd82xj3k4hbzxp (This will change when a new version is uploaded).

If there are problems with the file hosting site, can anyone recommend an alternative?

 That would make a lot of sense ... especially since you can also host a Readme for those of us who need step-by-step instructions for using Atoll's program. The Readme is a WIP ... as I get all my questions answered by either you or Atoll.

Atollskis, this looks very interesting. I thought it was just a file tree like what’s in your signature…but from what little time I have had to look at it , it’s much more. Am I seeing this right…it ties into the nav. map with all your info in it….that’s great THANKS

SeeJay, feel free to host the program, source and documentation if you have the space

Yep, it reads data from your nav log entries, calculates & uploads navigation routes to the game and has a (currently undocumented) facility to calculate the location of unvisited planets by monitoring your flight log data.

About the exploring ingame map you said about earlier - am testing that right at the moment! (There is an example map uploaded (Spoiler alert))
It directly modifies the nav map in the \\hud folder so you can view all the systems you have found in-game. It gets very cluttered though because there is a lot of systems out there to explore...

 Is that the nav map or the quadrant map? If it's the quadrant map ... luckily we now have a zoom option.

Sorry, I meant quadrant map - even with the zoom, it gets very busy!

Image How are coordinates applied to the map? Cursor over to see them? What other data is displayed?

Currently not being displayed but am thinking of plotting the chart on a grid so you can work out the position (it gets even messier with co-ordinates - lots of overlapping).

Could decrease the font size/increase the image size (same effect) but it makes the whole thing hard to read in game, even with zoom. OR... could have some kind of crafty zoom facility which plots a section of the universe instead of the whole thing?
