Question about Gameplay

Post by exist »

I've spent the past few (5 or 6) years looking for a space sim I would find acceptable. I'm not only interested in combat - I'm really more of a trader/roleplayer type - but every spaceflight game I've tried has had the same problem with combat:

Projectiles/lasers that travel at painfully slow relative speeds, necessitating extreme leading of a target at very close ranges. Much like the projectiles/lasers in all of these games, the ships appear to move quite slowly, even when passing another craft head-on at top speed, the apparent speed is usually something around 50-100kph.

It all adds up to a very "arcadey" experience, and while I'm not a realism extremist and understand the need to balance gameplay with believability as opposed to true realism (space, no wings and air, would require ridiculous thrust in a dozen directions to handle like a fighter jet, yeah - I know ^^ ) , I can't get immersed in such slow-paced combat.

Please tell me that Evochron Legends is not as such. :(

Hi exist.

At first, Evochron Mercenary is latest version. It's going like Mercenary, Legends, Renegades...

It is not, believe me. Fighting also trading/mining is awesome, I know very difficult to see both in one game! I suggest you to download Mercenary's demo (or other ones of course, depends on your system performance)and see yourself.

Good flying...

Hello exist, Welcome to the forum and hopefully the Sim. I would say try the DEMO and see if it is what would interest you. See you out there sometime.:)

 When you test the demo, do enough reading to know how to engage inertial (considering your dislike of aerodymaic flight for space ships). Then use afterburner during battle, pushing your speed into the 3000-5000 range.

Slow combat! Wow! Are you in for a shock. Combat in EM is anything but slow, and, there will be times when you wish it were. Learning to handle combat, in EM, is a steep learning curve. That's where MP comes in handy. You can sign on with an experienced pilot as his/her gunner and see how they handle it. Or, sit on the sidelines and watch a multi team take on the reds. Don't do that too often though as you'll get looked on as a freeloader - you get paid the same as everyone else on a mission, as long as you're in the sector.

Welcome to the forum, and, I hope to welcome you in the game! :)
