Using coordinates (or rather help using them)
It seems when i enter coordinates into the nav-computer that these coordinates are relative to my position. But then when i log something it seems that these coordinates are fixed & not relative to my position. This came to my attention while searching for hidden pearl which i hear is at x:3588 z:-1808 I could use some light shed on this.
Appreciate it

Co-ords are co-ords.
You've got the right ones for hidden Pearl planet. Have you not found it?

No i mean for instance if i manually type in x:3256 z:3315 the waypoint is always in a different place relative to my position (even when stationary). Is this a glitch?

Naw, it's not a glitch. It's called, "Operator malfunction" !
Don't feel too bad. Your'e not the only one. Unless somebody actually takes me by the hand and supervises every number I enter, it doesn't seem to work for me either !
Of course, that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the game.
It just means some of us are "challenged"

Using coordinates (or rather help using them)
okay, when entering coords, the left coords are the location in the sector, with 0,0,0 being the dead center of the sector, they are labled x (if your hud shows level and your compass shows 0 or 180 you are facing along the x axis), y (if your level and facing 90 or 270 you are facing along the Y axis) and z (if you are facing directly up or down (you can tell this by your "ladder") you are facing along this axis)
the right coords are the sector the right coords are in, with 0,0,0 being saphire, -1050, -5050, 0 being the solar system and so on, the axises are the same.
so if you wanted to go to the sector directly above saphire on your nav map and arrive in the center, you would enter all zeros in the left and 1,0,0 in the right column (first chord is top box, second is middle, third is bottom) , click jump (or autopilot if you are out of range of your drive) and youre there! (well unless your in a different system, it may take some time!) the diferent classes of drive can jump a number of sectors equal to their version number, so the class 1 fulcrum drive can go 1 sector.
and that's basically coords

But each sector is divided into coordinates too. Those are the ones that "jump around" depending on where you are within a sector.

Yes, you are probably confusing the Sector coordinates with the in Sector Coordinates. In your navigation computer entry you have 2 sets of coordinates you can enter:
1. Sector coordinates for example for Saphire System Sx=0, Sy=0, Sz=0
2. In sector coordinates x=0, y=0, z=0
These coordinates are the Center coordinates of Saphire System in Sector 0 of Saphire
Now the Coordinates for the center of Sector (1,0,0) Sx=1, Sy=0, Sz=0, in Saphire are: x=0, y=0, z=0
1. Sector coordinates for example for Pearl System are: Sx=3500, Sy=0, Sz=1800
2. In sector center of Pearl x=0, y=0, z=0

1. Sector coordinates for example for Saphire System Sx=0, Sy=0, Sz=0
2. In sector coordinates x=0, y=0, z=0

2. In sector center of Pearl x=0, y=0, z=0

Man, u guys are confusing the HECK outta me. No wonder I can't find any hidden planets. So, if you have right in sector coordinates, but are in the wrong part of the sector, you're porked?

Think of it this way: If this was Star Trek, you'd have sector coordinates and sub-sector coordinates. Just like, in a meter, you have centimeters.
SX, SY and SZ, in Evochron, are like the sector coordinates in Trek or the meter in ... measurement.
X, Y and Z, in Evochron, are like sub-sector coordinates in Trek ... or centimeters in measurement.
Or, if you play baseball, SX, SY and SZ are like the diamond in the school yard, where you have a whole lots of baseball diamonds. If you're on diamond 1, diamond two will always be in the same direction. But each diamond has three bases (and home plate). Depending on which base you're at, the other bases will be in a different (relative) direction.
Okay, forget baseball. Instead, think of the Evochron universe as ten thousand chess boards all set next to one another. Each chess board is a sector. Each square within the chess board is a sub-sector ... called, simply, X,Y and Z in Evochron.

Lol, maybe you and MM can start a club.
Ok, my turn to confuse you.
:)One sector is what you see on your nav map when you have zoomed in fully.
:)Any location in the Evochron universe has 2 sets of coordinates: Sector Coords which are written Sx, Sy, Sz; and In-Sector coords which are written x, y, z.
:)So if someone gives you the coords of say a hidden object, in order to find it accurately you need a total of 6 numbers, Sx, Sy, Sz, x, y, z. If you have only the S-numbers you can only find the sector. Having only the S-numbers is usually enough to find large objects like planets but for smaller ones like beacons you will also need the other 3 numbers to pin-point it within the sector.
:)When someone gives you coords of an object you should know if they are the Sector coords, or only the In-sector coords (although usually it's the Sector coords).
:)You then have to enter those numbers in to the Destination part of the Nav console which is upper right. But you have to make sure you enter correctly into Sx, Sy, Sz, and x, y, z. If you don't know the In-Sector coords just leave them at 0. If, out of confusion, you enter the Sector coords (Sx, Sy, Sz) into the In-Sector spaces (x, y, z) then you will see that your waypoint marker can end up in different places relative your position and you will never find what you're looking for.
:)Check that you are in the same system by looking at the Quadrant map in the Nav console and comparing the Sector coords that you've been given.
:)Once you have correctly entered the coords into their correct spaces just hit autopilot.
If you're still in doubt then check out Marvin's Basic Navigation Tutorial:http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtop ... 1#pid83154

Okay I've just seen that Marvin sorted you out! Once you've figure it out it'll become like second nature in no time.

Using coordinates (or rather help using them)
Think of it this way each System has hundreds or thousands of Sectors. Each square on your nav map is one sector and are defined by sector coordinates. Within each sector you have coordinates from -95000 to 95000.
so each sector is a cube 190,0000 by 190,000 by 190,000 now to define your position in each sector you need in sector coordinates and these are your x,y,z
And when fully zoomed out each square on your nav map is a Sector defined by Sector Coordinates Sx,Sy,Sz.......

Don't forget that this is all in 3 axis, so to drag out the analogy a bit more, may be a lots of large Rubik's Cubes (cubed!) instead of the chess boards.Originally posted by Marvin

there is such thing as a 3-d chess board :p i can't emember the rules, but i tried to play it once, it was hard to keep track of the extra dimension of strategies (and i find it easier to think in three, or even four dimensions than most people.

Well, there's the Trek 3D chess ... but you can also play regular chess by extending the board into the 3rd dimension and adding a couple extra lines of pawns. Then, again, there's also another dimension ... a dimension of sight, sound and mind. Of both shadow and substance. Things and ideas.
Here is a link to the rules for 3d chess.
