First, I would like to thank the developers for making believable space simulator game (played X3 for some time, but it is more like railroad tycoon with a space scenery mod )
I am still a beginner in the Evochron and there is something in flight control I don't quite understand.
In IDS mode if I set maximum speed (something over 1000) main engines burn 4 or 5 fuel units and I fly at maximum speed. When I turn on INERTIAL I can use the afterburner to get to even higher speed burning fuel much faster, all clear so far.
But in INERTIAL when I use maneuvering engines instead of the main engines and I can get from zero to 4k speed easily burning only 2 fuel units or so.
Am I getting something wrong?
Same here. Although it is quite weird getting the same power out of a maneuvering thruster as of the main engine but using less fuel....
Maybe something that should be fixed (but not the fuel usage of maneuvering thrusters should be fixed because imagine everytime you'd maneuver your ship it uses more fuel. Your gas would ran out a bit quickly. ). The only thing I think which has to be fixed is the power-output of maneuvering thrusters. In my opinion they're still a little bit too strong
Hi Emental, welcome to the game and forum. I think when you use your afterburners you accelerate much faster burning more fuel, and when you use manuevering thrusters your acceleration is less hence using less fuel. So your afterburners suppose to get you out of a Hostile situation much faster when you have inertial on.
And I think it does, cause I use it all the time mostly reverse afterburners to back out quickly while facing the enemy so I can shoot down incoming missiles and closing enemy fighters......

"Welcome Aboard Emental".....Have fun learning how your ship reacts during your upcoming flights. Turning off IDS during long space exploration saves on fuel and is a Hoot during battles with a Hostile ship

Probably, the main factor for burning fuel is not how fast you can go but how long in takes to accelerate. Maneuvering thrusters don't, for the most part, exceed the intertial threshhold ... which is kind'a like moving really slow after spraining a muscle to keep it from hurting. You eventually get where you want to go ... but at a rate slow enough so you don't feel the effort (my wife's definition of "jogging").
Thanks for your replies. Some more testing with the starting ship.
