Don't worry, the Evochron S.A.R. team can be quickly reached by turning on your subspace radio and dialing it to the "f7" setting.

(That's "Search and Rescue" for those of you not familiar with the acronym, or who think that I'm plugging the "Sons of the American Revolution" organization)

This 'rift gate' I'm looking for, will it show up on the map (the one accessible via F1), or will I manually have to hunt around and find it with my eyes. It's just a standard warp gate, that happens to lead to Riftspace, right?

You have to hunt it down. Although it is a regular gate it is hidden meaning it does not show up on the map I believe...but it should show up on your radar as a purple or pink tadpole once you are close to it...;)

You know, I was just thinking... I'm not sure that it really is 1 unit of fuel per sector travelled. Because I used up ~1200 fuel getting to the average of all the coordinates on attempt 2 (forgot to save though... :( ). But it is, in theory, ~800 sectors away from Orion Delta. And my IDS was off so I didn't waste any fuel maneuvoring (spelling?). Thoughts?

 With inertial off, you use extra fuel while slowing down. And, btw, the gate does show up on the nav map. You should see it once you're within maximum range.

Edit: P.S. But, with inertial on, the ship performs a zig-zag pattern to your destination. For best fuel usage, you need to constantly adjust your trajectory.

Slowing down? What, you mean when you are right next to the coordinates, you slow down to reach it? Because I was back in control before it started slowing down to land exactly on the coordinates. And Marvin, you practically said that the riftgate is in the middle of the box formed by the four most extreme systems. But only three of the systems are 'extreme' (Emerald, Sirius and Thuban). The others are just in-between the others. And, regardless of which one you consider to the other 'extreme' system, none of the coordinates formed by averaging their values comes anywhere near the coordinates generated when you average all of their values.
So either, the average of all of them is in fact nowhere near the actual gate (contrary to what Wasp89 said, although I couldn't find it when I was cruising round the area on attempt 2, so this could be likely), or the rift gate isn't in the middle of the box generated by the four systems.

Heh. Bit of a wordy post. And does the gate show up on the F1 nav map? Marvin and Maarschalk's answers contradict each other.

EDIT: I found it!! *Does a little dance around the room* More by luck than anything else. I was just randomly jumping around a hostile area (somebody mentioned in another thread it was in a hostile area), and I found it! *another dance* Thanks for all your help guys!

 Glad to hear it. Now I won't need to clarify my spoiler.

But, about slowing down ... with inertial off, your ship slows down while its energy regenerates. In doing so, it also orients itself toward the next jump point. With intertial on, you continue to head in the direction of your original jump point ... usually either a zig or a zag from a direct route.

;) You can observe this zig-zaging by watching your vector indicator. Engage inertial and then start a series of jumps ... watching how the indicator drifts after each jump. Now disengage inertial and watch how the vector indicator returns to center.

Congrats on finding the Gate xingbing1. Now the real confusion will start trying to get back to normal space but there are a lot of adventures waiting in rifts space. Good luck on your exploration of riftspace and what lies beyond....;)

Yeah, I suppose it's too late for this, but just remember priorities once you get to riftspace.

The first order of business?

Save.

the living should take this to heart...

Very difficult to find it! I thought so at least. You are so lucky. Buy a lottery ticket right now :)
