Riftspace (spoiler)...

Post by xingbing1 »

ELTOSR

So, I'm trying to find riftspace.
I've got this far, and the strategy guide tells me that it's the middle of all those systems. I've looked around on these forums a bit and got an idea what the coordinates are. But, it's in the middle of nowhere, and will probably take at least an hour and more fuel than I have in my tank to jump there using my Fulcrum Drive C5.
It was hinted at that there is a wormhole or somesuch to get to these coordinates, so here is my question: how would you find such a wormhole, and if there is one, why bother with working out the coordinates, when the wormhole takes you straight there.

Please help, I want to find riftspace!

There is no wormhole that takes you straight to riftspace gate or straight to riftspace. There are 2 ways to get to riftspace. 1. The long way by flying to the coordinates of riftspace but then good luck on finding the hidden stations and wormholes in riftspace...LOL.. 2. Find the gate to riftspace using the clues from the beacon quest. And this last one is the only and best way to get to riftspace..that is through the hidden riftspace gate in the middle of nowhere....;)

Hello xingbing1, When you are ready to take the flight to rift space take lots of fuel by increasing your fuel tanks. You can always get rid of them when you arrive at your destination. Welcome to the forum and the Sim. See you out there sometime.:)

You use up about 800 units of fuel to get to the Rift gate, but, always best to take more. The flight there, on autopilot, takes around 10 mins. Good luck.

I have never used autopilot for long trips so may have to give it a try.:)

Expect the trip to take twice as long with a Fulcrum C5. The 10 minute figure is based on the highest class of Fulcrum drive.

Set 'er on autopilot to the destination coordinates, turn off inertial and go make yourself a cup of coffee.

Oh yes, also get yourself one of those experimental jump drive that lets you jump 10 sectors at a time on autopilot...that is the drive which will get you there in 10 minutes unless you have not enough fuel with you. Best to attempt it in multiplayer than you have a chance of a rescue party coming to your aid...LOL...;)

 Or, if you get stranded in single-player, post a need for help here, at the forum, and wait in multiplayer for somebody to show up with extra fuel. Even if nobody shows, at least the whole community will get a good laugh.

OK, thanks for the replys guys. I guess I better upgrade my ship for a bigger fuel tank first - 800 with the better Fulcrum drive should mean it's about 1600 with the C5. Unless I find that better Fulcrum drive first - but if it's secret it's unlikely I'll find it anytime soon.
And I meant the gate or whatever it is to get to riftspace in my original post, not Riftspace itself! That would take far too long.

LOL, indeed it would take far to long...but hey I tried it...and I got to riftspace but I could not find anything in riftspace by taking the long way to the riftspace coordinates..;)

 The experimental drive isn't really a Fulcrum. And, if you do a search for "spoiler," you should find a neat little diagram that "hints" at the location of the Rift-gate.

For refuelling jobs for pilots who run out of fuel on their way to the rift space gate; you can always nip into D132 to do a refuel - saves you having to go all the way back to Orion Delta, which is [SPOILER] where you should start your journey from!

D132? Where's that? Somewhere in the middle of nowhere? Oh, and I started from Lambda, because that's where I was when I decided to try and find it. Should I be regretting that decision now? :P

Update: I ran out of fuel, my coordinates must have been wrong. Took me about 1/2 hour and about 1800 fue to get there though. So, I've restarted. Anyone got any tips for working out the actual coordinates?

Oh, and I came across a 'D132' but no system, I was still in the middle of empty space.. apparently it's in Emerald, so says the system information panel. I'll try starting out from Orion next time.

Aye, Orion Delta is your best starting point. If I see u in MP I'll give u the coords for D132.

The amount of fuel you should need is fixed regardless of the drive you are using. It takes one unit of fuel per 1 sector of travel. So if you alt+f2 (or use autopilot, which is the same as using alt+f2) with a fulcrum C5, you will use 5 units of fuel each time.

If you use alt+f2 with the experimental drive, it will cause you to jump 10 sectors and thus use 10 units of fuel.

I routinely make the trip with less than 800 units of fuel, but there is no room for error! And yes, Orion Delta is your best starting point.

SPOILER!

if you take the sectors in the clue (ELOTSR) and find the average of their x coordinates and their z coordinates, that new (x,z) sector will put you within 10-20 sectors (IIRC) of the gate. Once you get there, you'll just have to do a little search pattern.

*******************************SPOILER ALERT*******************************

You only need to take the average of 2 of the ELTSOR system coordinates to get within
2 sectors of the gate and keep in mind the negative and positive coordinates when
adding and dividing to get the average..and as to which 2 systems to use..? Well you might
be able to figure that out from one of the clues in the strategy guide......;)

 Not really. For example, if you give my wife five numbers to add up, she will get five different answers. So, depending on the pilot's basic math skills, he or she could either find Rift-gate ... or end up in Outer Slobbovia.

Don't worry, the Evochron S.A.R. team can be quickly reached by turning on your subspace radio and dialing it to the "f7" setting.

(That's "Search and Rescue" for those of you not familiar with the acronym, or who think that I'm plugging the "Sons of the American Revolution" organization)
