I'm not quite sure how it happened, myself. Romulan had kicked my butt a couple times and I was out for revenge, so I attacked him a couple times, but because I had inferior equipment, I kept getting blown up. I tried getting a lock on him with my Echelon missiles, but no dice. So, I said in the chat that for some reason my missiles weren't firing. Then I saw the following (Or as close to it as I can remember):
Romulan: Language Translator On
Romulan: You have no missile lock, Human.
Romulan: Language Translator Off
I replied that I was getting a lock, but for some reason they weren't firing. He allowed me to practice, responding with "I will not fire" and true to his word, he didn't attack me when I tried getting a lock. Managed to fire both my missiles successfully, but those weren't enough to destroy him, so he killed me soon afterwards.
Having a Romulan constantly hunt you may be annoying to some (One player actually ragequit over it for some reason), but for me I just feel that it was a good way to show what can potentially happen when in space. I still need to practice evasive maneuvers and proper use of Countermeasures, but sometimes, panic response is the best way to practice.
(Also, belatedly, I figured out how to fix the joystick drift. If I turn the sensitivity to Medium and put the Deadzone up to 1, that stops any drifting caused by an ever so slightly loose joystick.
