IN YOUR DREAMS PEOPLE

Post by ChazFox »

Hello folks! I found out about this game a little while back, I had been playing the X series (X2: The Threat in particular was awesome) beforehand and had been looking for more space trading games to satisfy my strange desire to become an intergalactic courier. I found out about Evochron, and from what I've played of the Evochron Legends demo (Namely, the tutorial and a bit of the actual game) it's pretty awesome!

So, I've just bought the game (So I'm waiting for the email containing my key to arrive, that could be a while), and I'm looking forward to playing the full version, and possibly even meeting up in multiplayer. ^^

I only have one question about multiplayer in Evochron Legends, though: Are there any distance constraints between players? I know some co-op games limit players to being within a certain distance of each other, so I was wondering whether players were limited to being a certain distance apart, or whether they could freely explore the universe at their own will.

That's all I really wanted to know, other than that I'm mostly posting here to say hello. :)

Hope to meet some of you guys ingame soon!

Welcome to the EL and the forums, ChazFox!

There are no distance constraints between players at all. I have seen players about as far away from each other as......you can realistically be in the game.

Hope to see you in mp sometime!

Hello ChazFox, welcome to the forum and the Sim. You can get so close to another pilot your ships sheilds touch. Some player use this as a ploy in combat to upset the others aim by bouncing off the other pilots ship See you out there sometime.:)

That definitely sounds awesome! That's pretty much reassured me that I made the right choice buying that game :p Still learning the controls and whatnot (I tried using a joystick, but my joystick's a bit old and prone to drifting if not calibrated right, so flying becomes similar to playing Desert Bus, only in space. :P

Just looking around the forums, I'm already finding some guilds and whatnot that pique my interest. Independent Merchants, for example, has me interested.

Look forward to meeting you folks in Multiplayer (And I see a Spaceballs reference there, Accountant! Spaceballs was a good movie, and probably one of the things that got me interested in sci-fi, in addition to Red Dwarf. :D)

 Independent Merchants meet every Sunday at noon, Pacific Time, on B5's server. (Btw, sometimes my joystick wanders, too ... but it's easy to counter. Once I'm in the game, I simply do a "flight controls check" by rotating the stick through its x-y-z axes. After that, it no longer wanders ... unless I reboot the computer.)

Alright, well, I've got my key, I've been playing the game (Though I died and lost my progress, a grim reminder that one should always save their progress when possible), and it's been fun. :D

Quick question. How many players have died cleaning a solar array? That was one of the ways I died. xD Was trying to figure out what plates still had a bit of dust on them when I bumped into it a couple times too many.

Yes, I died several times trying to clean Solar Panels, as a rookie I could not control my speed very well and would constantly crash in to them. Yes, we met in MP, again Welcome to the Forum.;)

Alright, well I've had a proper chance to play multiplayer, and I can say I'm absolutely loving this game, despite the Romulan killing me several times. I also inadvertently made history according to Babylon 5 itself, as the Romulan actually spoke to me, to educate me on proper missile use when I was trying to retaliate. XD

I'm not quite sure how it happened, myself. Romulan had kicked my butt a couple times and I was out for revenge, so I attacked him a couple times, but because I had inferior equipment, I kept getting blown up. I tried getting a lock on him with my Echelon missiles, but no dice. So, I said in the chat that for some reason my missiles weren't firing. Then I saw the following (Or as close to it as I can remember):

Romulan: Language Translator On
Romulan: You have no missile lock, Human.
Romulan: Language Translator Off

I replied that I was getting a lock, but for some reason they weren't firing. He allowed me to practice, responding with "I will not fire" and true to his word, he didn't attack me when I tried getting a lock. Managed to fire both my missiles successfully, but those weren't enough to destroy him, so he killed me soon afterwards. :P

Having a Romulan constantly hunt you may be annoying to some (One player actually ragequit over it for some reason), but for me I just feel that it was a good way to show what can potentially happen when in space. I still need to practice evasive maneuvers and proper use of Countermeasures, but sometimes, panic response is the best way to practice. :P

(Also, belatedly, I figured out how to fix the joystick drift. If I turn the sensitivity to Medium and put the Deadzone up to 1, that stops any drifting caused by an ever so slightly loose joystick. :D)

The above statement from ChazFox has caused great concern on Romulus, and suggests not only a failure to comply with Romulan Standing Orders and Rules of Engagement, but also a change in the pilot’s psychological profile.

The Tal Shiar has convened an investigation panel and I have demanded an explanation from Romulan, which hopefully will clarify any potential misunderstanding.

It would seem that whilst the well named Charlie Fox was being successfully hunted by the Romulan hound he was unable to fire his missiles in retaliation. At this moment, a sub-system failure inadvertently caused the windscreen wipers, language translator and Romulan Ale Machine to be switched on.

What Foxy heard over the translator was the Romulan crew laughing and suggesting to each other why his missiles would not fire. He also overheard the weapons operator confirming the Captain’s order not to fire again, unless fired upon. (Rule of Engagement 5(a) under Captains Discretion). However, it was at this point that the translator was manually switched off so Foxy only heard the beginning of the conversation.

Romulan has assured me that no deliberate conversation with Humans took place and never will. He also assured me that Standing Orders and the Rules of Engagement were scrupulously upheld at all times and he would never allow them to be broken.

Statements from the Warbird’s crew and the findings of the Tal Shiar have satisfied me that Romulan should be re-instated to Evochron Combat status effective immediately.

Any idle talk of a Romulan policy change, talking to humans, teaching newbies to operate their machines or even of growing up, as suggested by Mr. Muchtalk, should be firmly stepped on.

Romulan would also like to thank Charlie Fox for getting him into deep trouble. As a thank you, he will decorate Sapphire Station with chimes made from Foxy’s bleached remains, hanging on wire and blowing in the solar wind.

HAIL ROMULAN!

Right next to the chime made by the other Romulan's bleached remains?

I never saw or heard a Romulan having the human traith of humor. So to suggest that the Crew of the Romulan Warbird was laughing and the evidence of this humorous post makes me very suspicious at least of the validity of the report and claims of what had occured or that it was really a Romulan Warbird. ROFL Realy, Realy very funny. :P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P

The fact that these devices are wired together worries me. I can only imagine what flushing the toilet must do.

Well, I'll go ahead and hide somewhere safe. O.O

Anyways. I've been having awesome fun on Babylon 5, even if the server is fairly empty. At first things were a little slow, but after I traded in a bunch of Platinum at Port Rivoch, my money's been steadily growing ever since, especially as I find little tricks here and there for trading stuff (You'd be surprised what kind of a profit you can pull by trading fuel converters!)
