I'm starting to do combat missions for the first time and have a couple of questions. First, is this like other FPS games where the AI enemies aren't anyhting like real people?
Also, do most players fight in first person view? Or a combination of views? Thanks~

There are 2 kind of AI ships, Human and Vonari. Human AI have two major goverment systems, Alliance and Federation and can be friendly or hostile depending on your reputation. Vonari AI are an allien race invading Evochron and are an enemy of both the Alliance and Federation. This applies both to Single player and online multiplayer. AI stands for artificial intelligence meaning computer generated and controlled ships.
In multiplayer the only difference is that you have real people joining the game and flying their own custom built ships. Hope this answers your questions. I think most players play the game in first person view, cockpit view.
Just like a real space flight simulator where you have all your cockpit instrument panels and HUD available which you will constantly need.

This is like every game: artificial intelligence cannot copy the quirkyness and strategic insight people have. It's not a limitation of the FPS genre, but of the processing power of the computer.
Marvin described it spot-on, actually.

Thanks. The only reason I ask is I've been itching to play online so I thought I'd go to Olympus and practice. Problem is I'm getting my but kicked in Olympus
. I don't have a problem shooting missles out of the air but my flying sucks lol. The combat is very fast. Granted, I'm still in my stock Talon.

This might sound crazy, but, you may find combat easier in a war zone! In the war zones, usually, the only reds you come across, on a mission, are the ones on that mission. Even in SP, in a WZ you get help from the navy (green), well the navy is green unless you accidently, or otherwise, shoot at one of them. If the navy turns "red", once you've finished your mission, and saved (alt Q), just jump out of the sector, and back in, they should be back to being green again.
You may find that doing missions in multiplayer is even easier, as you may have help from other players. One word of warning; when you are doing WZ missions in MP, if you hit the tilde button, you will see a list of players on the right hand side of your screen. Whoever is listed first, at the top of the list, in that sector, will be the mission leader. If the mission leader gets destroyed the mission is failed.
When you accept a mission, don't set your marker on the center of the designated waypoint, put it just half on the WP - that way you can coast in to missile range, hit Alt R to get your nearest Vorani. When you get into Vorani missile range, usually around the 2,500 unit range, they'll start to take an interest in you, and the missiles will come flying in your direction. At that point, you should have you speed set to zero, switch on your inertial, and hit reverse thrust (the / key) and hammer your afterburners out to a range of just over -1,200, from there you can pick them off with your missiles until the last Voranie fighter, not cap ship, is left, switch off the inertia, get your speed up and go after it with your guns.
Once you've got confident at taking the last Vor fighter out, with guns, try the last two, then the last three.
Another side advantage of using a WZ for combat is that if you take the missions from a carrier, then you will be gaining military rank which will give you access to the military ships.
I hope this helps. Good hunting.

Thanks for the tips. I decided since I have very limited play time that I would get back on the beacon missions. And just as sure as I entered Fauston I got my first kill. Good stuff.
