how do fleets work?

Post by berighteous »

hi!
my internet is down for mp, so I've been playing sp. I hired a bunch of ships for my fleet and went on contracts, but the ships never engage the enemies. They just follow me around making me do all the dirty work. How do you tell your fleet to actually attack something?

Thanx

It is F5 and F6. F5 for fleet to form up in formation and F6 for fleet to attack enemy target!;)

I had about 25 of them earlier today. Looks like they run out of missiles quickly and then they just fly around and shoot at enemies. Takes forever for them to take out significant numbers of reds. Is there a way to have them reload missiles or equip them in some way? It would rock to be able to buy them all excaliburs

Uuuuuuhm, I think the Game is difficult enough for new players in hostile territories and now arming the AI's with Excaliburs? I can see a Newbie flying into Fauston and getting attacked by 20 AI's with Excaliburs that is 160 missiles. Now let us do the math. 2-5 countermeasures per missiles that is 320-800 countermeasures!
and we only have 100! Ofcourse you can always try to shoot 160 missiles down! ROFL:P:P:P:P:P

Maybe a command when you're docked at a station - reload/refuel fleet. or something.

When you recruit AI's what do they have? 2 missles and cheap guns? can they run out of fuel while you're patrolling your realm? Will they, on their own, dock at a station/resupply at some time?

Probably an order to get to a docking bay and refuel/rearm could be useful for fleet managing, without having to dismiss them all the time.

A plus would be to be able to pick equipment and donate it to them.
Best regards

yeah. It's too much trouble to dismiss 25 ships and then scour the sector to rehire them again.

By the time I return from quicksave they all seem to have dissapeared quickly. Maybe they know they won't return from next contract alive. LOL:P:P:P:P:P

I think it would only be fair if some of the AI had excaliburs, if we can have them, why can't they?

To be honest, I think they're overpowered to the point that they make most of the other missiles in the game pointless.

Anyway, I came to this thread because i've started building a fleet but I was wondering if there is anyway to tell if a ship is in your fleet without actually being next to them? (as they don't always follow you).

Seconded. Some of the higher tech one shot missiles I've seen available sound interesting, but they're one shot and sometimes cost 10% the fee of a contract where you might have cause to fire quite a few. With the excalibur pack, they're not very tempting. Cheaper one-shot missiles? Replace the regenerating excal pack with a one-shot version? Give it to the AI?

 They are if you're on an escort mission and the Vonari battlecruiser is too near the "destruct" point to gamble using a string of excaliburs. Nothing can ruin the rest of your day like having the ship you're escorting get hit by a couple left-over missiles ... makes it really hard to do the next escort mission.

You have to keep a steady watch over your volley so that you can switch target in time to let them run out of gas or home in your buddy..... that will hopefully take no offence.:P
