This is just a simple idea I had, nothing too special. I think it would be cool if "fighters' (civilian ships aligned to one or faction or another) could be scrambled from the cities on a planet to take out a threat (read: the player) Basically, it just means that ships appear on the planet's surface, or near a city when the player goes down to dock in hostile systems or comes within a certain distance of a city--say, within radar range of the city.

It would give planetary descents a more realistic feel, but might make it nearly impossible to dock on a planet's surface for much time at all and would be one more reason why people would avoid visiting planets completely.

Simple in theory, I guess; it might be much harder to implement in the game.

Could be done, but you're right, it would make landing at a city much more challenging.

I love this idea! It would make things tougher, but also add depth to the faction rating system already in place. It would give the player some incentives to keep relations at least slightly above hostile. The fighters could be weak to help limit the added difficulty factor, and this would add a great deal of realism.

Personally I don't think that's such a bad thing, I remember how hard it used to be to land on Pices back in Alliance

Specific cities could be rendered safer than others? IE the primary inter-evochron planetary port... but once removed from that area you start to draw negative attention?

Stealth generator. Max Shield preference. Noone would know you're coming down... I've clocked my personal "shield recharge" time of about 15 seconds. So you're unstealthed for a max of about 15 seconds. Wouldn't be very hard. It would make things more interesting.

Except not everyone has a stealth field generator and many are unwilling to give up an equipment slot for it.

I still like the idea. It might be a good idea (I don't know if this is possible) to base the number of ships coming from the city off of the fee that one has to pay to dock there; that way someone could buy a license at a city and not have to worry about it in the future.
