Evochron Legends, in my humble opinion, has a single flaw that keeps me occupied and yesterday, someone suggested something that might fix that without breaking the "Save Anywhere"-ethos of the game, which apparently is quite popular amongst the players.

I've rewritten the solution to not require any extra controls or buttons.

If the Transmit Pos button, in the Navigation Menu is pressed in a Singleplayer session, the AI dispatches a ship, its attitude depending on the threat level. If the attitude is hostile, the player will be destroyed and instead respawn at the nearest station, thus allowing for restarting. If the attitude is friendly, the ship will give the player 120 fuel for 3 times the value of the fuel in the system. If you cannot pay this, you'll respawn at the nearest station with one piece of equipment removed. The time that the AI takes to reach you is dependent on the distance between the nearest station and the player. If everything is alright, this should require only one additional variable slot (something like f_aiDispatchedTimeLeft?)

Personally, I'd also love to apply this to dying, having an ejection pod that needs to be retrieved by the AI, giving something like a respawn time and a form of punishment. If you'd like to return to the last save, you can still do that. It'd just turn around to 'you can continue, keep what you earned and lose what you lost, or reload and go back to how it was).

This would make the game somewhat more unforgiving, yet at the same time, it would fix that one issue.

Rami, that's the best suggestion I've heard yet! I like it. It's fair and it adresses the "pod" issue. I hope Vice considers it.

Sounds ok to me too. I've been hankering after a proper ejection pod for some time.

Yeah, SVB, I got the idea through your post before-yesterday, I just worked on it a bit to make it fit a bit in the game universe and gameplay, and complete the idea a bit. Ideas usually work better in a seperate thread, instead of somewhere halfway an unrelated thread.
