Lagout due to number of players?

Post by Daedalao »

Things seem to work fine with fewer than 5 players. After the fifth player joins a server, I start getting lagged out every 5-10 minutes. Curious as to what this could be.

On one server or all of them? It would likely be a server side problem and not client. It's been tested with a great deal more players than that and hasn't had load problems. So it may either be the system a specific server is running on or its internet connection.

It has happened on both verbsleagues server and the [sw] test server.

and it also happened to both Jackal and Manareth. (we're on the same connection)

Hmm, I guess it could be related to three clients on the same line. Any other activities or sharing on that connection? A disconnect occurs after no packets have been exchanged for about 12 seconds, so if something it causing such a delay, that could be the culprit. The SW server is the one that's hosted upwards of about twice as many players at a time, so perhaps it is client-side.

Well, I think other players have had similar issues, perhaps I need to open ports on the router? I've not had to do it for any other game... I know Shewter was disconnected from verbs server earlier.

Also, when it's just us no lag issues, and when Shewter joined in there were no problems. I'm not sure if it has to do with the information being broadcast from the same IP or not... If this is the case, I'll probably end up running a dedicated server for the three of us to play on, and maybe open it if anyone wants to hop in and say hi.

When those disconnects were happening Wavey, I was the only one playing from my connection. There was actually no other activity on my connection.

you can check for packet loss
open command prompt
type cd\\ enter
then type ping *server ip goes here* enter
that should show if any packet loss
you can also use
type tracert *server ip goes here* enter
that will show the route from your pc to the server and any bottleknecks
