Carwash Cockpit Version 0.1
========================

Image

Info
----
This cockpit replacement is designed primarily with Track IR users in mind. The idea was to make you 'use' your haed movement more, thus adding to feeling that you are in a cockpit. For example some of the instruments (well, only the radar sphere actually) is out of sight unless you pan your view down slightly to the central console. Also, it's more rewarding to 'look around' the environemnt (i.e there's stuff to look at, like a co-pilot seat :D)

Non TrackIR owners can still use the cockpit but may want to adjust the gauges.txt to move their radar sphere into a more visible position.

This vid should give you the idea...

MIRRORS NEEDED before my ISP throws a wobbly over my usage :(

Install
-------
Unzip the contents into a 'hud' subfolder of your ER root like this:
C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronRenegades\\hud\\allthefilesfromthezip.*

Notes
-----
The cockpit is a chimera combination of my own (crap) modelling and texture art plus a selection of modified (by me and again craply :) ) free models and textures.

The free, unmodified models and textures can be found at the below links:

All credit to the dudes who made them :)

Known Bugs/Fixes for next version
---------------------------------

* NOT OPTIMISED!!! This is a high poly pit with fat chubby textures. It runs fine on my 8800GTS, Core 2 Duo, 2 Gig RAM rig. It may chug on lower spec machines!!!

* Clipping error around player's head when looking extreme up or extreme left with Track IR. Not sure i can fix this without making the cockpit much larger...

* BMP textures!!!! For some reason even though the ccpit.x file defines the texture materials as *.jpgs they only show up in game if the files are actually BMPs :( I REALLY want to fix this as it's trippling the size of the mod. Any ideas??? Help! I've included both jpg and BMPs in the zip.

Wow, nice work! A very 'open cockpit' feel to it and a very unique design. Light reflections on such a high poly mesh look great.

Wow, thanks for the comments! I put a fiar bit of work into it so I'm glad it's appreciated :D :D

Don't forget to grab the glass canopy textures I posted above, they weren't inclued in the main zip at first (although they are now).

@Vice, any idea about the BMP issue mentioned in the first post?

Thanks again :D

This looks great, well done. Also for all of us without track-ir I've just found a very interesting site and software. http://www.free-track.net/english/
It provides instructions for making your own head tracking equipment and the free software to make it all work. Looks fairly easy as well so i'm going to give it a go and put my old Eyetoy to some use.

Not really anything I could control, it's how DB and its incorporation of DirectX load the textures with the model. What I would recommend is that you remove the JPG's and just leave the BMP's in, you'll cut the duplicate texture size about in half that way since the BMP's will compress to near JPG levels in a ZIP anyway and you won't have the JPG's taking up the extra space.

I will have to try this one. I don't have Trakir but I will try it anyway. Great work CarWash. I for one always forget which set of numbers to change to move things around so if you could give me a clue I would appreciate it. I made a list but unlike Claus I have no helpers to keep things tidy (lol). :)

This is what i used in the guages.txt

-1.9 < - Top Display Vertical
9.5 < - Top Display Horizontal
0 < - Top Display Rotation Angle
-1.1 < - Up/Down/Left/Right Thruster display (just the numbers and arrows) Vertical
4.1 < - Up/Down/Left/Right Thruster display (just the numbers and arrows) Horizontal
0 < - Up/Down/Left/Right Thruster display (just the numbers and arrows) Rotation Angle
6.1 < - Bottom Display Vertical
-0.21 < - Bottom Display Horizontal
0 < - Bottom Display Rotation Angle
-0.85 < - Targetted Ship Sphere Vertical
2.5 < - Targetted Ship Sphere Horizontal
-0.49 < - Radar Sphere Vertical
0.51 < - Radar Sphere Horizontal

Try changing the penultimate value to 2 or something. might line the Radr Sphere up with the smallest canopy 'ring' (the scafolding type thing in the middle of the screen :D ). Or get a TrackIR. They just went down in price last month and they're ace.

Just call me "MM". That's what everyone else does.
There was some confusion with "Mastermindless", but he is referred to as "MML" for short.

Lol... I also seem to be referred to as "mindless" quite a bit, as well. And, once or twice, someone actually called me "master". :P

The cockpit looks awesome, Carwash... Looking forward to checking it out in-game. :) (Taking a look at that freetrack thing, as well)

Penultimate is actually a poncy, fancy name for 'next to last' not last (to save confusion...) ;p

As for 'moving the ring structure to the left' what ring structure do you mean? The actual metal framework rings that support the glass of the cockpit? If so you can't do that unless you actually edit the mesh (which is fine by me for personal use btw if that's what you want to do). You can't adjust those rings just by altering numbers in the gauges.txt

As for them being skewed to the left in the first place, it's not 'set up like that' for TrackIR users, it's just that it's a two seater cockpit so the centre of the rings (the axis of the ship if you like) isn't lined up with your view. There are intrinsic problems of perspective and apparently off-centre forward motion with this I know but it's not a big issue. Just remember that your crosshairs are the 'real' centre :)

If people want I may release a 'single seater' version of this pit where the view is centred... In fact I think I will do this, i'll also make sure this 'single seater' version has all the dials and screens inview for non-trackIR users...
Damn you! There goes my bank-holiday! :D :D

Glad you like the pit MasterMindless.

Hi Carwash.....It's 3am and I thought I'd download your mod and check it out...even though I don't have a TrackIR....hehe what a Hoot that was, Excellent job!! it was a blast to just check it out Flying around in ER.....maybe one day I'll be able to get a TrackIR system....in the mean time I can hardly wait for the single seater with the 3 screens for us non-TrackIR's ;)

only one thing was a bit different to get use to was the compass numbers.....while I really liked the Red colored 0 degree mark in the compass.....the hand written looking numbers were a little bit hard for me to get use to....maybe a change back to the numbers in the original compass but with bold printed numbers? just a suggestion....Yoda's eye's are not what they use to be...Just ask CW403 :D hehe.

Thanks for all your Hard work....This was a Fun and Exciting experience ;)
