I can't seem to find "sounds" folder

Post by Action_52 »

I wanted to replace a sound effect of the game so google told me there should be a "sounds" folder inside the /media on documents, not in the main game directory, so i look for it but there was non, rather than those save files or other files inside that media folder on documents. I check the main game's directory, i opened data folder inside media folder, there were .evo (VLC) videos with weird long names which cannot be played by vlc, i was looking for .wav format audio files, which has proper names on them which tell what they are for, but they can not be found. Show hidden folders option is also enabled. Can you guys tell me where are they?

The game's default media is internal and not included in such a folder, that is a folder you would need to create in order to import custom sounds. Instructions on importing custom media along with file and folder details are available here in the customizing kit: https://www.starwraith.com/evochronlega ... readme.htm

It's covered in the opening introduction:

Simply place the desired directories and files in the '\media' folder of the game (inside the game's installation folder) to apply custom media. You can selectively apply and remove custom media by changing the names of files/directories or by deleting/moving them.

Basically, you just create the needed folders and place the custom media files inside.

So do i have replace the entire media folder of the main game or just the data? And do i have to create that folder inside media or outside?

You don't 'replace', you place. As it says, 'in the \media folder', so inside the '\media' folder.

If you're following the instructions, it won't replace files. If you're replacing files, then either you didn't create the needed folder(s) to place custom files inside and/or you're putting them in the wrong location(s). For example, if you want to import a custom sound effect for the tractor beam, you would place a file like this:

\media\sounds\tractor.wav

First create the '\sounds' folder inside the '\media' folder, then place the custom 'tractor.wav' file inside the '\sounds' folder. The game will then load that file instead of loading the default sound effect.

No, it's not really that simple. It's like learning long division in the fifth grade. It sounds complicated. Comparatively, it is complicated. But, once you get the hang of it, it's easy to do. As for audio, once you learn where to place the files, the next questions are: which audio formats (besides .wav) can I use ... and how big can they be?

Careful once you start changing sounds you'll want to start making 3D models next ;-)
