Making quests and missions

Post by TraderDan »

While working on custom assets for Evochron and hopefully Arvoch eventually I've been brainstorming about a custom campaign and story.

What I know so far is Arvoch uses a mission editor and Evochron uses manual scripting

Wich got me to thinking, can some elements be ported to Evochron using a campaign editor from Arvoch?

In either instance is there a manual for scripting / list of scripting commands, parameters etc that I can study up on?

I'm completely green to this however I'm told I'm a quick study ;-)

Who knows? Maybe it'll go in my portfolio someday lol

Not really, they are very different, both in formatting and parameters/options.

Yes, included with the games. For Evochron, a sample quest file with instructions is available in the \media\Quests folder (Quest0-Sample.txt). Descriptions of each parameter and the available options are included. Arvoch's mission editor is also available online here:

Thanks Vice I guess the answer was in my install folder the whole time but I'm glad I asked so I could get the link to the Arvoch editor as well.

Once the trek assets are finished I want to do a full fledge campaign but I'd like to make some short missions first to learn the basics

1. Recreate the docking scene from the movie interstellar as a mission taking advantage of full inertial mode

2. Finish the Gunstar cockpit and make mission centered around the battle against the Ko-Dan command ship

I've sent Vice a copy of one of the quest scenarios which has a number of remark lines (any line starting with an apostrophe: '). Granted, he might already have this copy but it's been awhile since it was scripted. Anyway, you might find it helpful when scripting your own quests.

That quest (the 'mystery') you can also download from within the game (will be placed in a \Quest4 folder within the Documents\EvochronLegacySE folder).

For anyone else following the thread I found another quest that I think Marvin wrote here:

I think that's Seejay's old website. If so, it's a safe place to peruse for "historical" Evochron stuff.
