The "Save" option isn't working for me.

Post by SeeJay »

DaveK has provided a textfile for Atollskis NavData program with "only" the Known Universe in it.

It's available at my download section. (http://evochron.junholt.se)

Thx Dave!

Hey tn_prvteye.

There is a manual for the program on my site if you didn't know.
Might help you get going.

Thanks, I'm getting used to it now. Still trying to figure out the Jump Point Auto-Nav thing. Really nifty little program.

EDIT: NVM, forgot that there was a C:\\swd3g folder as well as a Program Files (x86)\\Evochron Mercenary folder which I had another harddrive.

I'm trying to get this program to work, but I'm finding the outdated instructions hard to follow.

Where do I find the "maplogX.sw" file? I know the X stands for the pilot profile but I do not see one in my evochron folder.

Is there a more up-to-date instruction manual somewhere? I've read through the pages in this thread and didn't find anything dealing with my issue.

Yes those are the ones I've had. They are pretty outdated but I think I've solved my problem, I'll edit this post when I do.

 IIRC, both the old and the new versions of Atoll's program require you to create one or two files. Any other file is generated either when you launch the program or when you add objects to your Nav file. The instructions for where to place self-made files are in the same thread as the DL.

Well I've got the program working for the most part, but the dynamic map is giving me problems.

I have the input map as a 800x800 png called mapbg.png, and it's outputting to my hud/map.png

When I click "save" in the app, I get this pop-up error:
http://pastebin.com/5HGJPef1

And the map isn't saved.

I saw a post earlier about this problem but they seemed to be running it out of a different directory. My Map Log.exe is in the same directory as my install, profile and hud folder.

EDIT: I'm running Windows 7 64bit btw.

Yes the game and the profiles are in my C:\\sw3dgs\\Evochron Mercenary folder.

hi zuff,

could you paste the contents of your maplog.cfg file? I think it's something to do with the input/output of the image from that error report. It sounds like you have the input/output set up correctly but there is something wrong with the format of your source image. Can you see a thumbnail of the picture on the options menu?

Sure!

Map log.cfg:

Code: Select all

[Settings]
Output Interval=5000
URL=
Port=80
Game Output File=C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary\\savedata.txt
Map Log File=C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary\\maplog0.sw
[Dynamic Map Configuration]
Dynamic Map Input File=C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary\\background.png
Dynamic Map Output File=C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary\\hud\\map.png
Map Font Face=Arial
Map Font Size=9.75
Map Font Color=-16777088
Line Color=-4144960
System Color=-1
[Save Data Format]

[/Save Data Format]
and attached is my background.png file.

EDIT: And no I cannot see a thumbnail. I'm making the image in Paint. I tried Photoshop earlier but came to the same result.

Have found a fault in the save file code for the image... This may be due to a change I made or upgrading from Visual C++ 2008 to 2010. Looking into it now!

I am loving this program, I put Windows XP back on my netbook and am running this from the netbook while playing EM on my desktop. It really adds a lot to EM (I never bothered exploring empty space until today).

I am using version 1.0 and used the navdata.txt from the 1.0 source code as a starting point (my current copy is here [warning, it has spoilers in it]).
Here is a cleaned up (uncharted gates/planets/spoilers removed) version that works with 1.0: navdata.txt.

Image
I am using a simple webpage (+javascript) to display the dynamic map, copy the coordinates from savedata.txt and display them and a ship position 'dot' on the map. It turns my netbook into quite a useful little navigation computer.

Just wanted to say Thanks, Atollski! :D

Hi all fellow pilots,

I require some assistance with this :(

I downloaded the txt file with the Known locations on, but how do i get it into the tool?
I copy everything into the navdata.txt file, open Map Log.exe and ..... nothing. still have my maplogs in....
Close Map Log and bam, navdata.txt has been cleared out again.
what am i doing wrong here?

Thanx all. :)

The "Save" option isn't working for me.

Post by havok »

Hello.

This is my first time posting.

I have been trying for past couple days to get Atollskis navdata program to work successfully and have run into a road block. Everything is working properly now except that I can not get EM to output the savedata. I have created the savedatasettings.txt file in the C:\\sw3dg\\evochronmercenary\\ directory and have confirmed that it does not have a double extension. I have also copied and pasted the file name into the save dialog when saving the savedatasettings.txt file to ensure there are no spelling mistakes.

I have tried it with just the interval, and with the interval and the directory with both forward and backward slashes and EM still will not output the settings.

It currently has only 5000 and a line return (blank line) in the file.

I am running Windows 7 and have set EM to run in compatability mode for Windows XP SP3 and running as administrator.

EM has no problems saving the maplog0.sw file so I do not believe it is a permissions issue.

I am running the latest version of EM (Version 2.408).

I have been searching other forum posts for last few hours and have not been able to come up with anything else to try.

Has anyone else run into this problem or know what I am doing wrong?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Any time the savedatasettings.txt file is in your main game folder, it should generate a savedata.txt file. With or without a third-party program running at the same time. So, without even launching Atollski's program, make sure the savedatasettings program is where it belongs ... then run the game for a few minutes ... then exit the game and check for the savedata file.

I have already checked this as well. Both visually with the file explorer and when I used the command prompt to verify the single file extension. It is in the same folder as the exe file.

-Edit-

I have also run EM several times with different varations of the savedatasettings text file ( without path, and with path both with forward and back ward slashes) restarting the game after each change without Atollski's program.

The savedatasettings file does not need to run in XP mode ... I use it to run my H2GE Nav program on Windows 7 without any problem. But, just to confirm, you aren't running the game via Steam ... right? 'Cause, if you are, somebody who updates via Steam will need to help you. Steam is tricky.

No its not via steam.

And I don't have the savedatasettings file running in compatability mode.. The game itself is. I wanted to make sure that it wasn't a permission issue as windows 7 gets picky about permissions sometimes.

I have also done a full search of my hard drive for savedata.txt and it does not come up at all.

You can try adding an empty savedata.txt manually in your main game folder.
The game should start filling it up once you start it.

Also, the paths to files may be different for different OS.
Try changing the "/" to "\\" or viceverse where you type the path in Atollskis program.

The game isnt generating the file for Atollskis program to load. As it is now Im not even running his program since EM is not generaterating the file or fill a manually created one for some reason.

Also tried changing the frequency from 5000 to 3000 and tried changing the encoding to a universal format..

I will keep trying other things.
