Faction 'turning' - let's talk Emerald...

I'll go back thru the excellent guides you guys have put together, as I'm sure the answer's there, somewhere...

...but I've noticed that some systems (Emerald, for example) have you started out being 'chummy' with the Rebels and Guild factions, and the Navy, Energy - maybe Miners - don't think real highly of you! ;)

Question: I've built a couple of Trading, Research, Construction, Ore, et al stations to improve the overall economy. I've hired a couple of 'buds' to keep the ticks off my back, when I first roll into the (offline) game.

To begin to 'flip' these guys, does this mean I need to run contracts for Navy, Energy, etc. until the 'tipping point' and does this mean I have to persevere thru the point that EVERYONE hates me for a while? :P

This coming from a relative 'noob' that's been to Sol already, et al. I guess my 'advanced trainee' license will now be revoked for asking such a lame question... :D

Also, why the 'hard' contracts in systems such as this (8 enemies, waypoints with 30 enemies, etc.) compared to other systems? I've got a pretty good ship, so it's not that hard - but any insights appreciated!

I really need to do more than just 'dabble' in this sim, every so often...

BTW, LOVE the new update, Vice!

You cannot change your overall reputation in multiplayer (MP) but you can change it in single-player (SP) ... keeping in mind that those who you work for in any one star system (SP) expect you to stick around long enough to make a difference. In MP, you can change your faction reputation ... which will usually limit the number of hostiles you meet while roaming the system. It also means you're less likely to arrive at a contracted waypoint and then find that the hostiles have been reinforced.

Your reputation change from Hostile with the factions will go through 3 stages. Each stage will lessen the amount of hostiles when you do solely contracts for the Navy, Energy and Miners:

Hostile to Moderate is stage 1
Moderate to Fair is stage 2
Fair to Good is stage 3

It is a good idea to keep one or 2 systems hostile for combat practice!.....;):P:cool:

Thanks for the tips, guys!

Yeah, I've been trying to make it a point to stick around. :D

That bit about the reinforcements - that's either "new" with the 2.408, or I never noticed it before. Then again, it seems that ALL the contracts are harder in Emerald, comparatively speaking.

I can usually not need to even go "inert" with 4-5 baddies, but the way I get swarmed (9+) in Emerald, I usually get my butt handed to me on a platter while "dancing" (inert), even with a pretty well-equipped Legacy ship.

I've got another MIL profile that I fly with and "dance" with the Vonari when I really need to warm up! :P

All this is SP, I'm referring to. Online is great fun, but I haven't done a lot of PvP online, as yet. Some, but not a lot.
Co-op stuff I've done more often, but not due to any reluctance on my part to clash arms...

I still haven't got the hang of taking out cap ships as yet, but it's right there in the excellent docs you guys took a great deal of time to put together, in various places.

Time to study up....

regarding killing cap ships ... I too have not been able to kill them

Last weekend I spent 4 hours trying to take out cap ships to no avail. I tried all the methods delineated on this forum and in the tips doc; no luck yet.

I went up the tail pipe targeting the stern missile tube ... no luck ... blazing away with beam then cannon then missiles .. no luck. I snuck up underneath its belly to "the blind spot" and beamed away ... shields unfazed. I went at it head on ... suicide it was. I died more in those 4 hours than I had in all 8+ days of playtime before.

These were all Vonari cap ships. Is there a difference in the alliance/federation cap ships vs vonari? I may have seen one or two vonari capitals go down while the humanoid cap ships come apart regularly. ... or maybe I was dreaming.

good luck ... i will try again sometime soon

It could be that using the "U" key and targetting the weapons systems may be the key. Need to research it. I know with the improved flak with the 2.408 version, that without at least doing that - chances are slim to none of success. Good luck to you as well....

******************SPOILER ALERT*********************

Targeting the Weapons system first is always a good Idea once weapons system of Cap is down it can not do any more dammage to you! You still have to look out for other hostiles targeting you while you take down the Capship! It has become harder to take down the Capship in the new update but it is still possible! Also strategize on what kind of missiles to use!....;)

The cap ships have become a lot tougher.
Rage missiles work well to take out it's weapons but its only temporary.
Bring more than one and attack its weapons subsystem.
