I know this is old, but I've uploaded this to my server's downloads folder... so the link is... http://www.daedalao.com/downloads/carwashhud.zip

I've not even looked into the file, but if there's anything I need to add let me know.

I believe the cockpits in EL are built slightly differently, you'll probably have to wait till the mod kit if finished before anyone starts work on them.

Sorry chaps, doesn't work in EL. Rest assured as soon as the mod kit is out i'll be reworking it for use in EL, along with some other pits... (including the single seater version I promised to do for non-trackIR peeps. You luddites ;) )

Has Vice given any indication on the ETA of the mod kit? I am really looking forward to seeing this Mod in EL.

I was unhappy with the results of this thread so I've started making a cockpit that is all my own work. No borrowed models or textures, so that (if he wants to!) Vice can use it in his Mod Kit pack. Here's how she's looking so far:

Looks great Carwash, can't wait to see it in-game. Insofar as analogue switches are concerned, it has been proven that people respond better to tactile controls than touch screens, hence why they are still commonly used. In any case, touch screens would hardly be practical when wearing a pressure suit.

I forgot to finish my last post (and don't see the edit button?).

It looks like you're modelling in SketchUp. If this is true are you using SketchUp Pro, or is there a way to use the .skp or .kmz in EL?

Carwash, if you'd like me to, I'll send you the updated version of your original cockpit for use with EL so you can see what needs to be done in terms of filenames and texturing. It won't work in the 1.028 build of the game, but will work in the next build (I used it as a reference for adapting the game to such design criteria). But it would at least give you a template to work from.

@ Vice - that'd be great, i have this pit ready for ER now, is the conversion process to EL difficult? PM me a link to the converted old pit and I'll take a look!

Link sent. The conversion process is pretty easy. The main difference is EL uses three layers instead of one, each layer helps define a material type. The first is the base layer, second is the specular reflection layer (just an inverse grayscale texture defining the reflection level of the parts you want shiny), and an illumination layer (so detail like the spotlights and cockpit lights stay illuminated even in the dark). Basically, any cockpit can be updated for this system by simply making 3 copies of the same structure, then applying the needed textures for each layer. To make modifying an existing cockpit even easier, since X files are generally ASCII text, you can just edit the material lines for new texture names, save the file with the needed mesh name, then import the textures you want to use... then you don't even have to deal with a 3D modelling program.

Venomx, it looks like it would need to be converted over from EL to EM. A lot of the ship models and such are still EL related. Would be awesome to have a larger selection of modded ships/cockpits/textures to be brought over to EM, but I'm not a modder so I haven't the slightest idea how difficult it might be.

I think the link died when EM came out or before that as you can see the last post in this thread was by Zenith and was posted 3-1-2009......;):(

If only I had the time, I would love to design a cockpit like that for Mercenary. I'm pretty sure skarb might love to do something like this too though, looking at his modding efforts lately. Perhaps Vice could post what exactly needs to be converted for use in EM, and someone still has a copy of these cockpit files lying around. That would be awesome.
I'll even happily do it myself if skarb is not able to do it for whatever reason, because this is a brilliant piece of modding work and should not get lost.

By the way, what happened to the original author? Is he no longer around?
