We've eliminated the obvious, the less obvious and the sideways suggested so far.

We've discussed the possibilities of it being a game issue or a game bug. Several people have now come up with some interesting ideas, not explored before. Paraphrasing the "Master" from the 70's series Kung Fu . . .

I have landed quite a few times now on earth, but unfortunately I always wake up and cannot remember how I did it.
I have had the same dream about the lotto but can never remember the numbers when I wake up:(

Nice landing...But it breaks rule #2.

Rule #2 is a Biggie...it prevents code manipulation, doctored video and screenshots which is difficult or impossible to pull off in multiplayer. This keeps it fair for all.

Here are the Rules:

1) You have to record your call sign here in this thread to become an official participant.

2) Your landing has to be in Multiplayer.

3) In this thread, you have to provide convincing visible screen shots that you were there, and at least 2 pilots from the contest who will vouch for the authenticity of the landing.

4) You also agree by your participation, that if you land on Earth, you agree to keep it a secret. You also agree by your participation, that if you are the winner of this contest and you reveal how it was done, you agree to forfeit all your winnings to be evenly distributed to all official participants, and you agree to forfeit your ranking as being the first to land on Earth in Evochron Mercenary which the honor will revert to the 2nd runner up.

Optimist that I am, I'm trying to sneak past the ring veeeeerrrryyyyy slowly (4 speed units). I'm nearly there and no warning so far

It's taken two and a half hours so far

but, boy does the ring look big and detailed - I swear I can see a guy in the cafe having a coffee!

Update: Sorry it took so long to report back, but it took so long to get to the point where I got blown up

However this time I did manage to see the altitude info kick in and yes it is 507 500 exactly. So now I feel that I've moved one more small step towards the solution (as Dingo said elsewhere . . . humour me!

If you where moving at 4 speed units and you where able to read 507,500 before the explosion you must have exploded between 507,499 and 507,496 units of altitude assuming ofcourse that you where heading straight down relatively perpendicular to the center of the earth.
Now those 1 to 4 units can still relatively be an astronomical distance for a bug(virus).....I'm just saying you have to put things in the proper perspective......

Assuming my destruction was instantaneous - ie they targetted me, warned me clearly as I approached the line and then zapped me when I hit the line then the line is where I exploded.

507 004 . . . tick . . . 507 003 . . . tick . . . 507 002 . . . tick . . . 507 001 . . . tick . . . 507 000 . . . boom!

There appears to be an anti relativistic time dilation near the ring - time slows down (scientific word - "drags") the slower your speed. There was a perceptable time interval between the unit changes on the altimeter, but when it reached zero there was barely enough to time to register the 000 before the boom. I had to repeat the experiment to be sure, because that's what scientists do (when we get a result we like, we repeat the experiment to relive the pleasure of getting the good result

A lot of research and puzzling over explicit and dropped hints over the last few months, and I'm down to my final two possibilities:

"there's a loophole" - the defensive ring is a loop and therefore has a hole that can be traversed down from the top or up from the bottom.

Test: exact positioning directly above the two poles, point exactly towards the centre of the Earth (XYZ positions correct to the single digits, compass and altitude to the degree). Move in a straight line, hopefully to slip through the "loop hole" and land in triumph!

Result: landed in a shower of burning debris, scattered across the snow scaring penguins, polar bears and Inuits

Possibility 2 requires knowledge of a particular manouvre and a lot of puzzle solving to discover and translate coordinates before it can be tested. Is anyone willing to share the secret of "direct jumping" into a station or cave? I can and will keep it secret. Please U2U me!

Probably won't work as you blow up even if jumping through Earth but without reaching atmosphere. Suggesting a death radius around that will destroy you regardelss of speed.
