Enhanced Nebulae Mod (EM) Updated

Post by SeeJay »

Hi Leatherpoker.

I used your mod in my XP 32bit and it worked great.

Now I have upgraded to Win7 64bit and when your mod is installed, all nebulas disappear?
Any idea on that one?

Other than that I really liked the looks of it. (When it worked LOL);)

Make sure your install of Mercenary.exe file, files, folders and mods are in your sw3d folder. When I installed Mercenary in Windows 7 for the first time it some how did not put the Mercenary folder in the sw3d folder........;):cool:

It all looks fine. I have the HUD mod and Ships (warps) and they work just fine.

Thx anyway.

I use Win7 64 bit so it should work but then each system seems to have it's own quirks.;)

Hi SeeJay,

Sorry to hear that it wasn't working for you. I'm also running Win7 64-bit, but I don't have any problems... You said that when you use the old version of the mod (without Sol and Andromeda) it works? I wonder if it is a memory issue? The Andromeda texture is huge so that might be an issue... Try removing the cloudy blue texture from the environment folder and see if it works then.

Hi Leatherpoker.

I'll try that. Thx. It's probably memory related. I onle have 2Gb installed . Will upgrade eventually.
EM is working with Max on all settings, so i was really happy after upgrading from XP 32bit.

Gorgeous. Thank you for sharing. Noticed that they're .jpg's. Can this be expanded by adding other .jpg's to it?

There are 12 image slots you can use for background nebula (slot 6 can be used if you want to use a solid background at some point). You'll need to use the \\environment folder, and then place the images you want to use in that folder. You'll need to use the filenames cX.jpg where X is a number from 1 to 12. Then you'll need to be aware that most of the images are shared to include variety, so here is the list of the linked pairs:

Pairs: Default Textures

1 = 2: blue – green nebulae
2 = 1: green – blue nebulae
3 = 9 purple1 (bright red patch in one corner) – purple2 nebulae
4 = 8: blue – light blue nebulae
5 = 7: orange – brown nebulae
7 = 5: brown – orange nebulae
8 = 4: light blue – blue nebulae
9 = 3: purple2 – purple1 nebulae
11 = 2: dark green – green nebulae

Unpaired: Default Textures

6: empty (does not display either a default or custom texture)
10: Andromeda sky (displays one image, without gaps, stretching 360°)
12: Milky Way in the distance (displays where the first of a pair would be displayed)

I resized all the square images to 1024x1024 and they still look very good to me (my display is 1440x900). I did this to reduce a "stepping" effect I was getting when panning across them, due to my underpowered PC.

My apologies for being a thread necro, but I have to give my thanks to the mod author. Fantastic job, it really makes a difference!

For anyone else who just picked up Evochron Mercenary this last week off the steam sale, this mod works, and it works quite well.
