Combat question?
Ok this might be a silly question but if I am attacked by any hostile (red) ship and I fight back do I lose faction with thats ships faction?
Reason I ask is right now almost everyone in Pearl hates me well except the rebels and guild who I am actually against. So of course I always have about 10+ ships waiting to greet me when I jump to the station there.
Normally I just avoid them and jump back to my gate...can I retaliate or should I just keep avoiding combat since I am trying to raise (Navy, Energy) faction?

Combat question?
Take missions for the navy and energy and yes avoid shooting them if you can. When you dock at a station, enter the station after docking as this protects you from their attacks until you exit the station (not the undocking) and you can do most things while you have entered the station after docking.

Hi.
You need to do contracts in a system to gain reputation.
If you attack a navy ship, even if it's self defence, you'll loose reputation.
I recommend an easier system such as Olympus Prime if you're new.

Combat question?
From post: 105344, Topic: tid=7479, author=Marvin wrote:Also, reputation works a bit different in MP versus SP. In single player, if you remain in a system and continue to do contracts for the Navy, Miners and Energy ... your overall reputation will go from Hostile to Moderate to Fair to Good. Unless you leave the system prior to the change ... in that case, your individual reputation for each faction will re-set.
In MP, your faction reputation has little influence over the general system reputation. A hostile system will continue to be hostile, no matter how many contracts you do for the good guys. The big exception is that, should you accidently shoot a good guy (or have one of your missiles go astray) while engaged in a contract, the good guys might turn against you.
Wait my reputation resets every time I do a trade run to another system?
As for the other suggestions...I already enter station soon as I dock if its all hostile, also built a station near the gate for quick selling and buying.

Combat question?
Leaving a system for a trade run before you have made any changes to your rep will reset your rep everytime you return.
In other words, don't leave a system before you have a rep change and don't stay away too long. Every time you leave a system, the clock starts running and they soon forget about you.

Combat question?
aah thank you very much. that could be a serious tactical advantage. since its a combat question thread. what would say are the most used/effective weapons in the game. and how is pvp usually faught? flight wise, is it practiced tactical flying ur just fire up the engines and continuously turn to keep ur target in the sights?

So busting your behind to raise your rep from say fair to good is a wasted effort if you stay away from a system too long? From post: 105355, Topic: tid=7479, author=MMaggio wrote:Leaving a system for a trade run before you have made any changes to your rep will reset your rep everytime you return.

Eventually you could go right back to hostile or whatever your starting reputation was in that system, if you don't revisit all the systems on a regular basis and do contracts?
Is there a actual game manual thats more in depth or is that 8 pages or so read me that came with the game install it?

I guess I just figured (or was hoping) this reputation system would be like other games I have played similar to this, where basically your reputation preceded you to some extent but you did not lose reputation after gaining it unless you did something silly.
Not really seeing the advantage to having this kind of rep system unless I was a pirate.

From post: 105412, Topic: tid=7479, author=Marvin wrote:I have never seen my system reputation decline in SP. Faction rep, yeah. But once your get your faction reputation high enough to change system rep, it pretty much stays that way unless you start killing the wrong pilots.
Oh thank you for this answer!
I was worried I would get a major rep change go do some trading in another system, come back and they would be like and who are you?
Hugs thanks Marvin have to admit I was little dismayed but you cleared it all up.
