The Final Black Box

A science team on long range research in hostile territory stumbles across a wrecked ship all alone. It's odd to see short range military fighters this far out so a full investigation ensued. The atmosphere was too dense for comfort and some chemical caused the sky to appear a blazing orange from the ground. They approached the ship and popped the airlock.

Inside was a lone pilot. His skin long gone and staring off into the eternal sunrise. The science officer looked into the black eye sockets while his ensign used his plasma welder to remove the shielded black box.

As the flight recorder finally came loose the pirate's skull seemed to lull downward and his jaw dropped as if locked in a bemused Grin for the rest of time. Before either the science officer or his young assistant had time to consider the clicking noises of a fulcrum torpedo arming the blast shredded the entire area and blanketed it in the concussion of nuclear release.

The black box was plated for just such an occurrence and The Grinning Skull had lived up to his name as his final trick pulled off without a hitch. Eventually the black box was recovered by another science team. It tells the story of his end.
