Video Series for New Pilots * Spoiler *

Post by RedFalcon »

I updated this thread with the * Spoiler * tag to stay compliant to Vice's forum rules. Even though this is all pre-expansion gameplay that doesn't change the fact it covers all the Guild contracts. In the future I plan to make a new tutorial series.

Instead of doing regular tutorial videos (those already exist) I decided to do a let's play/walk through of the entire guild quest line. You can watch the whole series here, or pick an episode from below:

00 Introduction and Pilot Creation

01 Flight Controls and Navigation

02 Courier & Race Contracts, Landing on Planets

03 How to (not) Clean a Solar Panel

04 Shipbuilding and Mining

05 Planet Economies and Guild Caches

06 Combat

07 Escort Contracts and why you shouldn't FTL into a planet

08 How to make money fast

09 Crew Members and Asteroid Caves

10 Advanced Combat

11 Spy and Capital Ship Destruction

12 Ace Pilot Missions and Fleet Commands

13 Military Frames and More Combat

14 How to dogfight while outnumbered

15 The Final Guild Contract

I hope you find them useful or at least a little entertaining.

Thanks for watching!

Hey RedFalcon, welcome to the forum.

I'm not exactly a beginner (been playing since Mercenary first came out) but I'm really enjoying your video series. I like your commentary, you explain things very clearly. Beginners will surely find those videos very helpful. :)

 I did notice one small mistake in the second video (on navigation). For opening the Inventory Console, you said to press F2.

Hey falcon. Glad to see you here. Your vids have helped me more than anything so far in Evochron (though Marvin is fast catching up to you, lol). When you see that Onionspam liked your videos, thats me.

Now get to work on part 6! ;)

Few comments.

1. S in the missile specification stands for Speed of the missile. Knowing your missiles speed and the speed that the enemy is going you are trying to target will make the missile more effective. If your enemy is going faster then the effective speed of your targetting missile your missile will not catch up with the enemy ship.

2. Entering the negative amount of fuel to sell you mentioned, you just type the negative amount you want to sell after opening the refuel reload option. you do not have to click on the enter amount, you just type in the amount you want to buy or negative amount you want to sell......;)

S is for speed it makes so much sense now. Thanks for your input and for watching the series.

Episode 8 is up for those that haven't seen it.

A few tips on making traveling easier: Like jumping directly into Station or Gate without drifting or over shooting!

1. Zero your pitch and direction to 0 or 180 degrees for Gates, for trade Stations your Direction can be any angle, for Construction Station docking your direction can be 0, 90, 180, 270 degrees. for Carier instant docking your direction has to be 180 degrees before engaging your jump drive. You already do this most of the time zero pitch and 0 degrees direction for Gates!

2. This is the part where you get in trouble, your directional targeting box, the blue box that shows in which direction you are drifting has to be centered in your targetting box as well if you want to straight jump through a Gate or Straight jump into a Station or Carrier! It will save you fuel and time!

A lot of new players would probably want a tutorial Video on how to Straight jump into a Gate or Station!

****************Spoiler Alert****************
Another tip to save some fuel money is when you enter the Hidden Planets atmosphere while having an emty cargo slot, turn on your tractor beam and sell the extra water or oxygen you pick up on your way down for some free extra credits. Also you can recoup your fuel credits by Docking on the planet and when you are done selling turn on your tractor beam and fill up your cargo bays with oxygen and or water and keep selling it till you recoup what you paid for fuel to fill up!.......;)

Hi RedFalcon

Excellent Videos - I'll add them to the Hints&Tips&Tutorials Guide.

One small issue - I use Gom Player to view flv files - all of the episodes except Episode 02 (contracts) play properly. Episode 02 says that it's 09:19:14 long (!) Although it plays for the full 26 mins it doesn't allow you to skip through the video - if you try to jump forward it it just starts over again.

The file on YouTube (and other sites) is 120Mb - I did find a version that is lower res with a file size of 64Mb that behaves as it should.

Any chance of checking this on your system and uploading a new version if it a corrupt file?

:)

EDIT: Spelling! :D

I wasn't aware there was a problem with the video. Unfortunately I don't have the original video file anymore.

Also, thanks for adding my video series to your guide. This is my most popular series right now. I feel bad because I don't have time to continue the series. I'll do some more episodes after I finish my Black Mesa Let's Play.

If there are any topics you want me to cover just let me know.

And as always, thank you for watching.

Hi RedFalcon.

If you want to send me the files, I'll add them to the new evochron site I'm working on.

Great stuff btw.

No problem adding you to the Guide - you've produced a resource for the community :)

I've downloaded them all so I'll trying "washing" the glitching video through a conversion programme.

SeeJay - I can FTP the vids to you if that easier or you can just download them from YouTube

Sorry for the late response I've been very busy recently.

Yes, you have my permission to download, store, re-enode, and upload my videos. All I ask is they remain unedited and I'm given credit.

FYI, I changed the license for all my EM videos to Creative Commons. This means anyone is free to reuse them as long as they link back to the original video.

Thanks again for watching. I'll make some more episodes after I finish Black Mesa.

Episodes 9 through 15 are up. They are all under creative commons so feel free to download and upload them to another site.

The series is finished and it covers every IMG mission. I had a lot of fun doing them but I'm glad this project is finished. I might do another series in the future covering the expansion or even mutliplayer (provided I can get better internet).

Thanks again for watching. Also, can a mod sticky this thread? I'm seeing a lot of new pilots and they could use a video series like this.

Don't know how to tell you this ... but a lot of what's in the series might be outdated once the Expansion is released. You can see from Vice's video that even the cockpit has dramatically changed. And, if combat in AA is any indication, so will tactics. Like with just about every other mod or contribution (including all of my forum tutorials), changes will be necessary.
