Some questions about multiplayer.
Hey, I just got the game, and I was wondering if I should just go straight to multiplayer, or do some singleplayer first, since they seem to be fairly similar. Will I die immediately to other players if I do? haha
I'm also wondering if there are any differences between multiplayer/singleplayer at all, other than the real players flying around. Can you still build stations in Multiplayer, and if so will there end up being hundreds of them cluttering up the quadrant?
Considering that the basic controls are really confusing me at this point, I'm thinking I might want to join a clan to have people around to help, if anyone's willing to take me. So yeah, fresh meat up for grabs here. lol
(Also, am I blind, or is there no way to choose your own password on this site?)

Get in the multiplayer right away, it's the same with the difference that there are users flying around.

Hi Lemony Lime, welcome to Evochron!
Definitely go straight into MP!! You won't get immediately shot at... in fact most pilots are really friendly and will help you to quickly learn the ropes. I think the only difference between MP and SP is the station building as Marvin said and also your system reputation doesn't carry over from SP... in MP it stays the same.

Heya Lemony Lime, welcome aboard!
Ditto to everything everyone else has said, but sometimes reiteration helps get the point across! So start with multiplayer, everybody's really friendly and helpful online, and it helps to combat both the initial confusion about controls and gameplay, and the sense of loneliness that comes with spacetravel.
And I highly recommend you join a clan, it gives you a more personal group of friends and allies to help you learn the ropes. And it also gives a good sense of inclusion and responsibility. Just remember to think about whether you want a clan that is more combat oriented, exploration oriented, or business oriented.
Again welcome aboard and I look forward to seeing you in space!

Well, I logged onto Starport 6, and was immediately blown up by bots at the starting station... lol
I can't log into any of the other servers though, it says they're either full or "blocked". I don't know how to see how many players are in them though, so maybe they are full, I don't know.

Immediately blown up by bots? You mean AI? Well, if you had saved in SP in a hostile system, that will happen. Anyhoo, you are always welcome on Starport 6.

I'm sorry about your not-so-great welcome Lemony Lime.
The Navy AI didn't like being shot at, so they attacked everyone... My apologies for the bad welcome.
They should be fine later... as long as certain players stop shooting at them on purpose to be annoying. I hope that you try Multi-Player out again... there are nice people who will try to help you out.

You can still build stations in Multiplayer, and it can become cluttered but there is a station limit to areas.
Stations you build in SP will not carry over from to MP.
About getting blown up by bots at the starting station. : (
It can happen when lots of new players are joining.
I advise to jump to station nearby.

Okay, well I'll hop back on a bit later. I have a friend who will be playing as well, so hopefully we'll have a better time with another set of guns at my side.

Is there any way to get in groups with other players on multiplayer. I thought I read somewhere you can see other players on the map.

i'm not sure about seeing other players on the nav map. There may be a way with sensor stations or probes, but I don't know for sure. you can hit the tilde key (~) to bring up a list of players with their sector coordinates. Grouping up can either be done informally, since players in the same sector are automatically included in any active contract that has been accepted there. Or you can group up formally by joining a clan, which is done by renaming your pilot from the game menu to have "[clan name]player name"
