Kneeboard....?

Post by Aquila »

Finally purchased a PC capable of running EM smoothly and I'm just now beginning to go through the training videos and immersing myself into EM. Absolutely love it and very excited about the upcoming version Vice is working on. I actually purchased Renegades and Legends as well but never was able to run either.

My question: Is there a kneeboard command inside the cockpit where one could readily post, save and access coordinates of wormholes, blackholes, abandoned ships, asteroids, etc? If there is, pardon the stupid question, but do post the answer.

I'm an oldie but what is a kneeboard (a keyboard you nudge with your leg?)

EM_Tools has a notebook facility where you can jot things down. If you have two monitors you can run a few utilities (EM_Tools, EvoMetric, Notepad, MapLog) all at the same time as the game

And this notepad or notebook facility is cockpit accessible without two monitors? What is the command for such an animal?

 You can access a "notebook" from default F1 (the Nav Map ... on the right-hand side). Make sure the coordinates you want to save are listed in the Destination windows. (As for a kneeboard, it's usually a flat piece of metal or plastic to which a pilot attaches his checklist. The "board" has a strap that wraps around your leg, often held in place with Velcro.)

I think Aquila is looking for something a bit more than an analogue scratch pad with paper and pencil on his knee - he could strap a bit of plastic on his leg if that's all he needs - I thought he meant the electronic note taking facility that opens a system specific electronic notepad like wot is in WM_Tools :P:P

But thanks for the HU on a kneepad - I'm sure I saw an RAF video where they had an early version of a sat nav map display on a kneepad - but it was just that - a moving map with a glowing dot in the centre showing where your plane was.

I tried to strap my other monitor onto my leg, just for authenticity - it didn't really work though :D

ps - is there a simple way of putting several quotes into one reply, like wot I've seen others do? :P

 Before computer monitors could display checklist items, kneeboards were a lot thicker. But, as for what was wanted, I thought his main concern was the recording of coordinates of places and things found in the Evoverse.

F-1 nav console - toggle "Add to Log" when you've got that item/co-ordinate in view, or especially right-clicked on. The co-ords should already be in situ; all ye need do is name the beastie! Hit "enter" and voila! you've jist recorded that spot in yer map log. Or you could do it the longhand way. Open F-1 nav console and type in the co-ords yerself, then save as a maplog entry, as above. ;)

P.S. Please don't forget to toggle "Enter" after you've typed in the POS X-Y and the SYS X-Y values. Will save many headaches! :)

Busch and Marvin were very correct, recording co-ordinates for quick reference. Just what I wanted.

Had to laugh though at the monitor on the knee Dave, I'll bet that was a bit cumbersome....:)

You know that, when something is not working and you're like "WORK DAMNIT!" and (while in total rage) you make a fist and smash the enter button over and over again? ...Yeah... you don't want to do that with this keyboard :D
