custom engine sounds

Post by Nigel_Strange »

I have been using a custom sound for the afterburner, the tabon and taboff.

For a long time, the sounds blended together nicely, so that you could not hear the transition between files. Essentially, the tabon is a quick fade-in to the looped ab sound.

However, now I am hearing a slight click. I believe that the click occurs with the transition between sound files, but I'm not sure. What I do know is that I'm using the same sound files that I was before, but now there is a click.

I have not changed anything for a while, so the only thing I can imagine that might have changed recently is the codexes.

It's not a huge issue, but it is a little distracting. I guess I could use the standard sounds if I cannot resolve this issue, but I wonder how the codex order might affect the sound quality, or if there is a codex that this game prefers (or if codexes are even an issue with this game).

The sound files do not seem to click if played separately in WMP.

custom engine sounds

It can depend significantly on the sound files and sound device being used (refer to this post for more details: http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtop ... #pid139266 ). Since the default sounds may have worked fined, I would indeed focus on the custom sounds themselves first. Make sure the start and finish of each sample start/stops at 0 and the AB loop interpolates properly at the end for looping back to the beginning. Then try different sample and bit rates.
