Evochron Machinima? Maybe? We shall see!

Post by Turbo123 »

I mentioned a few days ago in another post somewhere on these forums that my team was talking about doing a Machinima, We have come to a decision and have contacted Vice. We would like to do an Evochron Machinima. Now we have no information at this time about what it will be about or even if Vice will let us or what we will have to do for us to do it. But we have agreed it's a good idea and can make my company/Starwraith lots and lots of money if done right.

For any of you not in the "know" of what a Machinima is here is a brief description thanks to Wikipedia,

Machinima (play /məˈʃiːnɨmə/ or /məˈʃɪnɨmə/) is the use of real-time 3D computer graphics rendering engines to create a cinematic production. Most often, video games are used to generate the computer animation. Machinima-based artists, sometimes called machinimists or machinimators, are often fan laborers, by virtue of their re-use of copyrighted materials (see below).

Red vs Blue being the biggest/most well known out there. I am interested in feedback of what everyone thinks, As I have said if Vice says no we will back off the idea completely.

EDIT: I feel I should put more information as well,

A Machinima has 3 layers,

1. Recording - This uses "In-game Actors" and is really just as it sounds, Go in-game and record people doing things

2. Voice Actors - These are the meat and potatoes if you will. They are people hired on to do voices for the characters.

3. Production - This itself can go into 3 layers really, Pre-Production, Production, Post Production. But we will keep it as the third and final, This is the "Video Editing" part of the Machinima.

Then distributing, Which... Is the easiest part but very time consuming but I still don't consider it being a "layer".

Now we will most likely be recruiting on "Voice Actors" as well as a few "In-game Actors" as well from the EM community first and foremost, Every crew members has A chance of making a portion of the profit we make off of this if it goes.

Hope this helps a little.

The Starwraith games do not have any human characters in them: only space-ships. So, if you can do a whole story showing nothing but space ships, that will work. However, I think it will be hard to have much of a story without actors. Red vs. Blue worked because you could see people (even if you can't see their faces, you can identify people by their colors and voices).

Yes we do understand there are no actual "Playable Humans" but that is not a problem, With some video editing and fancy flight we can easily make it entertaining. Remember RvB made the heads go up and down by moving their mouses in Halo, We don't even have to worry about that. It's called Character Identification and basically every Character will have a unique look. Since this is A Space Fight Simulator the story will be about the Pilot in the Ship. The ship is merely a vessel that is used to provide story, Every ship will have A Pilot that is the character who drives the story. Who knows maybe even more than 1 character in the ship, We shall see.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yes it will, We will use them often in the Machinima for a "Mission Based" style. Actually Vice has contacted me back and has stated that we can supply him with a Rough Pilot and let him see what we can do, So I told my Head Writer and he already has a 4 minute Pilot Episode done (script-wise) so you guys may see this in the next few weeks if Vice allows it to go public.
