Post by Captain86 »

Hi
Just downloaded the trial, took the tutorials all went well. Ship controls seem normal with some configurations for joystick etc.

Anyhow once I hit launch and docked to take my first mission I left the station and jumped to way point for the mission

And the ship does not seem to stop it just keeps going in the direction of the initial jump. I turn on/off auto pilot and it turns toward the waypoint etc. but direction never changes

I can jump again or turn/pitch but if I try to afterburn in the opposite direction I don't overcome the initial direction I was going in. It just uses all the fuel and I'm dead in space

I exit restart, dock take missions, try again same thing.

There must be some setting stuck on or control thats not letting me control the ship but I can't find it ?

Please advise
Thanks

Strange thing is that it works fine during the tutorials.

 Firstly, make sure you're not in inertial mode.

Also it might help to increase the DeadZone of your stick in game menu.

Hi Captain86, welcome to the game and forum!...... Hope to see you out there once you decide to get the game!.....;)

Turn IDS on/off by pressing the "space bar" on your keyboard (However, having a Space Bar resting on your Keyboard and then pressing or leaning on it could crush your Keyboard...;):P:P:P:P:P:P)

I've been to the Space Bar. It's in Al's Quay isn't it?

Yep I took the tutorials and use the space bar to toggle the IDS as needed during the tutors

However, now that the tutors are over this does nothing I seem to jump to nav point and just keep going never stopping, change direction, can't stop, can't do anything but target and drift out into deep space

I use afterburn to try to overcome the direction I'm going in but that just results in fuel burn and then in a short time dead in space while continuing to go in the same direction the whole time ?

I was hoping someone had the magic button that I didn't know about or something ?

Now what ?

Just to be clear, can you look around at all? If so, what does the indicator under speed say? If it's set to Inertia, then tap space to get control. If it's set to IDS, then your ship turns with the mouse. Also, check your controls to make sure you actually have thrust/inertial thrust set to something.

Autopilot toggled on somehow? Hit Alt-F (toggles autopilot) and see if that does anything. Worth a shot....

Yep I can toggle the IDS and set to Inertia or IDS during tutorials works as it should, but once I Launch does not work

I didn't set thrust/inertial thrust to anything I just left it at default, but during tutorials I was using the numbers keys to toggle the thrust levels sometimes, or using the throttle control on my joystick for thrust controls I was sort of switching back and forth

I was able to turn with the joystick during tutorials turn/pitch/roll hat looks works etc.

But after I Launch all I seem to do is turn, and roll and if I use throttle or numbers for thrust it has very little effect and cannot overcome the direction I'm headed

I've not turned it on again since I tried it like 10 times to launch and restarted the computer a bunch of time and just assumed I must be missing something but now I'm not so sure

I toggled autopilot and scrolled through the information menus to look at all the controls to see if I'm missing something I can't seem to find anything that should be causing this

Let me ask something else too ?

When you jump there is nothing like super gravity that would cause this in any sector or mission that you can think of would there ???

I seem to have turn/pitch/roll control but it just never actually causes the ship to change direction

I'll boot to windows and try again right now.
I'll try the tutorials first then try to launch again.

Thanks all for the responses

Unless you jump in front of a star, gravity isn't an issue.

Can you post a screenshot or something? This is very hard to diagnose without seeing exactly what your ship is doing.

:o Is the joystick connected via USB? If so, have you tried other USB ports?

Ok thanks, so gravity not an issue I didn't think so but couldn't think of anything else

Joystick not the issue, but I have not tried other USB ports

I use this joystick on other games no problem and also in the tutorials it works perfectly so I have no reason to think it would change during my first launch and missions etc.

Anyhow, I would like to report that I did boot to windows last night and tried again, went to the tutorials about 8 times right to the combat section.

All controls working perfectly

The first time I went to launch same disfunction but I exited, then re-launched and all worked well.

I did this about 4 more times and then took a missions or so and failed, relaunched and all seems to be working well for no reason that I can find.

So for now it's working, I guess I can put this issue on hold for now, but once I upgrade to the full version next week I'll be able to test more fully just wish I could demo a little longer to make sure it's going to keep working.

Thanks people, hope to see you out there soon
