The Flight Logs of the C.D. Exploration Vessel

Post by Cindy »

The Canary Dido ship is a remarkable piece of technology. It has been near and far and was especially built for deep-space exploration and gate travel. After 150 years of planning, building, failing, building, and finally succeeding, the C.D. is ready for take-off.

The pilot who makes sure that everything is in working order is named Cindy. Her job is simply to write down what has happened for transmission back to the system of Sapphire. Well... that and keep the ship in working order, which might be slightly hard to do as its systems are purely experimental.

These flight logs will follow its journeys. Starting from Sapphire, it follows the quest for knowledge, peace, and technologically advanced societies.

Stay tuned for more about the Canary Dido and its travels... in the meantime lets have a several-hour commercial break... ;):P:P

 Thanks. Will go back and fix it. ;)

Are you suggesting I should get Cindy unconscious again? :P

Anyway... I wasn't planning on making a brand new story... oh well... lol No one says that flight logs don't have to be interesting... :P We'll see how it goes. ;)

Begin Transmission from Evochron Station...

"This is Cindy reporting in..." *crackling radio noise* I sigh as I kick the radio base. "I repeat, this is Cindy reporting in... can anybody hear me?"

I sighed again as the radio crackled to life... only this time in relief. "The is Head Quarters Cindy. Please switch to frequency 021."

I groaned as I switched the channel... protocol... so annoying! "OK, pilot Cindy, how is the Canary Dido doing?"

"You're precious ship is just fine."

"It isn't just precious miss. It is the finest piece of technology that we have!"

I sigh and think to myself 'the poor guy who gets stuck in average technology' as I tune the voice out. I regain my pattern of thought as the radio blares into my ears... "Cindy?! Are you even listening?"

"Sorry commander, the radio seems to be malfunctioning..." I let my sentence trail off as I jammed the buttons down confusing the radio and sending bursts of static to the base.

"Cindy, you'll have to contact us later... the radio needs you to work on it..."

"Yes sir!" I smile and end the transmission.

End Transmission...

Begin Transmission from Pices Station...

"Cindy to headquarters... can you hear me?" I glared at the radio, daring it in my brain to act up again... I had a crowbar ready to smash it to bits if it didn't work correctly.

"This is headquarters. Continue with your message Cindy... How is the Canary Dido doing? Where are you now?"

"Your piece-of-junk ship is doing just fine. It has a couple of marks where enemy fire hit it..."

"Marks where enemy fire hit it?!?!?! You aren't supposed to be using our exploration vessel for fighting! We should relieve you of your position of captain of the vessel! You aren't going to get paid if you return our state-of-the-art technology in bad condition!"

I groaned at the voice yelling in my ear until I head the bit about not getting paid. My eyes flashed a dangerous color of ice blue as I replied quite calmly, "Not get paid?"

"Yes, you won't get paid if that ship isn't in perfect condition!"

"I should take your precious ship and trade it to the native Piceans for a better ship and never come back." I growled over the radio.

"Easy Cindy... we know that you are the best pilot out there for taking care of this mission and that you'll bring our ship back." The voice was now soothing and I had had enough with these idiots.

"I just need you to do one thing for me."

"What is that? We'll do anything for such a wonderful, sweet, perfect person such as yourself that has such fine traits like..."

The voice abruptly ended as I snarled. "Shut up and listen."

"Yes sir... err... I mean ma'am."

I sighed trying to regain my composure... I was angry and I felt like traveling all the way back to Sapphire just to see my boss. Oh what fun I could have... wait. I was supposed to be telling him something. "A pilot named Papan tried to help me trade for technology. He gave me 5 million cash and I sorta lost a million of it. I need you to send me another million to pay him back."

"You did what?!?!?!" The voice shrieked in my ear.

"Just send the money." I growled.

"No way! There is no way that we're going to pay for your mistakes..."

I broke in again, "And there is no way that I can be stopped from firing on your top secret military base from space is there?"

"You... you... you... you..."

"You, you, you, what?!" I growled.

"You will get the million soon." The voice replied weakly.

"Good. You'd better hope the ship gets through Thuban or I'll have to come pay you a visit." I had no intention of actually firing on their precious, defenseless, secret military base that everyone knew about, but it was amusing to imagine them quaking in their boots because of my reputation.

"Cindy over and out." I growled through the radio and then turned it off.

The on-board computer beeped and said, "Cannot turn radio off... slight malfunction of system." I slammed the crowbar down on the incompetent radio - crashing it into tiny bits. The computer was strangely quiet. I pushed the on and off button for the engines so that I could dock at the station to buy a new radio. Nothing happened. Great, just great. I was now stranded in Pices - enemy territory - with no engines, no weapons, and no radio.

What was I going to do? I groaned... I'm supposed to think before breaking stuff... now I remembered why that was.

End transmission...

LOL I'm glad you guys like it so far. Will try to post more soon... I do need to study for some exams in reality though. :( As in 1500pgs of reading today for the exams tomorrow... I knew there was something I was forgetting to do last week... :o

Just a side note... if I ever win "Diplomat of the Year Award", you'll know that I'm dreadfully ill. ;):P My Mom is the only diplomat in my family that doesn't result with any of these results all of the time: A) hole in the ceiling; B) something broken or blown up; or C) hmmm... I'll think of something later...

Isn't that what the trigger and missile launch button are for?

Begin Transmission from the Pices Station area...

"Headquarters can you hear me?" I snarled into the radio getting a glance of curiosity from my rescuer that I answered with, "Watch what you're doing." He turned back to his controls and shook his head... I couldn't decide what his head shake meant, so I got back to turning dials on his radio. "Headquarters, I repeat, can you hear me?"

"This is Headquarters. Please identify yourself."

"This is pilot Cindy of the vessel Canary Dido."

"What are you doing on a strange radio? We aren't receiving the tracking info from our ship either."

"You were tracking me? Through the radio?!? I should kill you for doing that. Tracking me is not a good idea mister." I could hear my tone growing icy cold as I got angrier.

"Just answer my question."

"Fine. Your precious ship is getting towed toward Pices station for repairs."

"What?!?!?!?!" The voice shrieked in my ears - and drew another curious glance from the man who had stopped to see what I was doing... you know... whether I was doing an average job at spying or if I was actually having technical difficulties. Of course, it was the later. If it had been the former... wait. Stop my brain... I'm supposed to be talking to Headquarters not thinking.

"I said, your precious ship is getting towed toward Pices station for repairs."

"What did you do to it?!?"

"The radio wasn't turning off and there was a little bit of an explosion... well... lets just say that the computer system will need to be rebuilt."

"OK. Another ship is on it's way with our best technicians to repair the Canary Dido."

"Don't bother. I'll fix it on my own."

"But you can't do that! We need to have it set up just right..." The voice trailed off.

"You want to do it that way so that you can spy on me. Forget it. Just have them bring another 2 million cash for the repairs."

"You are ordered to not repair that ship!"

I spun the knob that my rescuer had just for sending static across the radio waves. "Please... again... can't... you..." That should do it I thought and smiled as I turned the radio off.

Now to find out who my rescuer was and what he actually wanted with me...

End transmission...

:o I read it. I also read the first sentence (and everything in between). I'm not asking to know the rescuer's identity. I'm only asking to know when the rescuer was introduced into the story line.

I glanced at the pilot who had rescued me and a flashback started...

I was back in the cockpit of that awful ship the military base at Sapphire had equipped me with. I was pacing back and forth hitting anything and everything within reach of my arm and the crowbar I was holding. The only thing that I didn't break was the glass that made up the 'windshield' of sorts and a picture.

Suddenly a warning beep BEEP beep BEEP started going off. I spun around and glared at the dash, but just before I brought the crowbar down on it again, I read what warning it was flashing... the life-support was going out! I felt scared, not much, but still... this was not how I was supposed to die! My plans didn't include suffocating because my stupidity. Getting blown to bits because of my stupidity and use of dangerous explosives maybe, but not the slow death of suffocation.

"Cindy calm down. You aren't dead yet." I said to myself. "First thing first, how much time do I have left?" I glanced down at the cracked screen... and sighed. If I was reading this correctly, I had less than 15 minutes left.

"Second things second, try to fix the radio." I quickly located the pieces that I would need to make another radio - except for one important piece that was broken in half from my swinging crowbar.

"OK, so much for plan A, switching to plan B." I glanced around for my 'HELP!' LED light sign and saw it in a corner - bent, yes, but maybe it would still work.

I plugged it in and immediately unplugged it as sparks flew. "Shoot!" I couldn't believe BOTH of my plans were toast because of my stupidity.

I looked at the time again... 3 minutes left and I was starting to feel light-headed from the lack of oxygen in the air. This couldn't be happening!

As I felt my brain shutting down to conserve the oxygen, the Canary Dido rocked as something hit it - throwing me off balance. The hatch opened to show me another ship had attached to my ship. A man with a curious look on his face was the last thing that I saw as I slipped into unconsciousness.

The flashback ended abruptly as I felt the stranger watching me with that curious look on his face again. I glared at him and he turned away again. "We are almost to the dock." He said.

"Good." I replied and then I remembered I hadn't told my rescuer something... "Thank you for rescuing me." I said haltingly. I was never good with 'Thank you's' or 'I'm sorry's', but I got it out without choking.

He turned and smiled at me. "You're welcome. Oh and by the way, I'm known as the Scourge."

I gulped. The Scourge was well known by all as a killer with no scruples.

The Scourge's laugh surprised me - until I realized that my face showing all the fear and dread that I was thinking. I quickly made my face appear blank and his laughter slowed - just a little bit. "Don't worry Cindy. I need you alive more than dead. You can be a hard person to find."

Thoughts raced through my head... I sat down to try to sort through them...
