Wait, wait, wrong forum.
Ahoy there, everyone! I'm Kris, and I just started playing this wonderful game. I hope it's appropriate to make an introduction post here in the General Discussion. I want to immerse myself in the community as best as I can, and this seemed the place to do it. I'm going to rant about my love of games for a moment, so feel free to TL;DR to the bottom.
I must admit that roleplaying games are usually my forte. Final Fantasy VI is my favorite video game of all time, and I love the entire Fallout series, V:tM Bloodlines, Super Mario RPG, and everything in between. I do love all sorts of games, but RPGs tend to be my favorite. That is actually what drew me to sim games in the first place!
I fell in love with Freelancer years ago when my friend forced me to play it. "You'll like it," he promised me, so I grudgingly accepted. I played it for hours that night, and couldn't stop! It wasn't a roleplaying game at all, but I was able to immerse myself in it as if it were. I eventually started ignoring the story at hand to develop my own character in my head, and make my own path through the galaxy. I had to leave eventually, and I wasn't able to play the game again for years! It wasn't until just this past year that I finally broke down and bought my own copy from Amazon, and when I loaded it up, I was .. disappointed. Oh, the game was still great! But what I had really been looking forward to was the online play, and .. I just couldn't get into it.
After that, I started going crazy, trying to find a game to satiate the star pilot inside of me. That's when I heard of a new game that was coming out called "Evochron Mercenary". I was hooked, but unfortunately, I was also broke. I started scouring videos and reviews, and even though I saw a few reviews that were less than positive, I still wanted so desperately to try it. I tried to scrounge money together, and it was no luck. Eventually I decided to give the demo a try, but after a couple of hours of trying, I couldn't get it to run. It seemed fruitless. So I moved on.
Cut to this past week. Steam was having a wonderful sale for Evochron Mercenary, I found out on reedit. I made a post there about how I'd heard wonderful things about the game, and even though I still wasn't able to afford it (this economy's a bitch, ain't it?) everybody should buy it, just to give it a shot.
Somebody I'd never met, spoken with, or even knew existed messaged me on Steam a few days later. Out of nowhere, he'd seen my post, scoured my reedit history, found my Steam name, and bought me Evochron Mercenary for no reason other than to be kind to a stranger. I was elated, and within a couple of hours I started up. I did the training, got a handle for it (this game is much more complex than Freelancer, I'll tell ya that!), and fell in love, just like I knew I would.
TL;DR: Usually an RPG fan, found out I love sim games, someone bought me the game, I am overjoyed.
So, here I am, eager to get into the community. I've flown some missions (mostly dropping off cargo and finding lost items, with some cleaning here and there), and i've built my first ship. It's not much, I'm sure, but it's mine, and I love it. (I found out that I'm also addicted to making ship designs.. please God, help me!)
Thanks for listening to my story. Or, if you skipped to the bottom, thanks for not just clicking Back. Any advice at all is welcome (I'll be checking out the noobie board after this post!), and grazie in advance for welcoming me.
Kris.
p.s. My username is pronounced like 'fantastic'. 'KRIS-tass-tick'. For some reason people tend to shorten it to "Krista", which isn't a very masculine name (not like Kris is either though, right?). Just so we start off on the right foot.
Greetings, folks!

Greetings, folks!
Welcome to the forums and the game, Kristastic!
I have not been very active lately, but it seems like the community is just as great as it was when I was more involved. Hop onto MP for in-game advice. Most people there are more than happy to help a newbie, and MP was always more enjoyable (to me) than SP.
If I was to give any advice to a new pilot, learn to love Inertial mode (press the space bar to switch between intertial and IDS). You maneuvering options will become limitless once you become comfortable with using thrusters to adjust your flight path rather than relying on the computer to keep you going in the direction you are pointed. I almost never use IDS anymore, and do not miss it.

Greetings, folks!
I've gotten into the habit of using inertial mode to save fuel, most definitely, though it's been tough getting used to the idea of flying in a direction other than where I'm pointing my nose. Heh, like I said, not a huge sim player in general. It's taking some time to get used to. Combat is quite difficult when one's main space-game experience is EvE (which I absolutely love, by the way), but it's very rewarding.
Thanks for the warm welcome. So far the community has been amazing, second to none. It reminds me of when I played Darkwind. Everybody was so kind there, too. Also seems to be a slightly older community, not quite so many teen players and such, though I don't actually know how old everyone is, they just act mature.
Hope to see you in space some time.
Kris.

Haha. Understandable. I've found that on the more 'mature' game communities, I tend to be on the lower age range at 26 years old.

Indeed. In a universe where anything's possible, who cares about age, yeah?
I still need to read the Lore, it's just that there's sooooo much of it.
