Sorry if this is answered elsewhere, took a look and didn't see anything so I might have missed it.

It seems engines affect your top speed, but not your rate of acceleration. (Mil vs civ aside.) On a light frame, with IDS multipliers I can fairly easily get a speed around 2500 with just the basic engine in IDS mode, which seems more than fast enough for most situations where I'd be using IDS over inertial or jumps.

Question 1:
I presume larger hulls would require bigger engines to keep up with the same top-speed. Is this assumption true?

Question 2: Other than possibly keeping up with hull-size (if earlier presumption is true), is there any other value to upgrading engines?

Question 2: Personally in my opinion, its better to use your construction points on other things, like wings or shields.

If Class 1 engine's top speed multiplied by 5 (from IDS multiplier) is enough for you then don't waste construction points on a bigger engine - they were created before the IDS multiplier was "invented" :)
