Hi everyone,
I'm sure there have been debates on keyboard vs. HOTAS preferences. I'm still experimenting with both and haven't made up my mind. But that's not what my question is about.
By way of background, I have a mid-range Thrusmaster HOTAS which is decent, but could really benefit from a few more keys.
Anyway, I've been wondering why anyone using a stick with a throttle would want the IDS Throttle Scale Factor to be set to any other value than x5 (100%). I appreciate that in certain situations (such as avionic flying) it is useful so that you don't go faster than 1200 by accident, but why would any pilot not want to have the full capability of his engines available at any moment?
And then I wondered if maybe it was more used by keyboard-only players?
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Having a lower IDS multiplier can be beneficial for players who use the variable throttle input for afterburner control in addition to throttle. That way, they don't have to run the Set velocity up to 5X max speed just to engage the afterburner in the middle of the dogfight. Using a lower multiplier can also make dogfighting a little more manageable, although it doesn't have to be left at 1X, some prefer keeping it at 2X or 3X depending on the ship class they are flying.

Thanks Vice. That makes a whole lot of sense.
BTW - thank you for an amazing amazing game. As a guy who spent more than a few years in IT I am truly impressed by your efforts and the result, not to mention how you were able to fit it into 250MB.
Great game.

I agree about combat - in the excitement I tend to have the throttle jammed on full: x3 works for my setup
