Docking tractor not auto-engaging

Don't know if this is the right place for this, but I searched and found nothing like this.

When I go into the docking area of a station, it usually automatically engages the docking tractor.

When I played today, it wasn't doing that. It would engage the tractor when I press F3, but it wouldn't do it automatically. This isn't a big deal normally, but if I'm under attack, (by NPC's)taking the extra time to press F3 could make the difference between damage and no damage.

The only thing different is I paid a hostile station to let me dock. It was auto-engaging before I did that, and now it's not.

Any ideas what's going on?

As stch said, use Alt+f3 to change settings from auto docking and manual docking to which ever you want to use.

Actually, the Alt+F3 option is an option Vice added to the game to keep pilots from being drawn into the station while under attack.

I love Alt+F3!:) You can still manuever around the docking bay without bumpimg into 'parked' players. Vets know it's a bump, but noobs sometimes think they're getting shot at!

Thx! That is good to know. I've had this happen several times in game. It seems to reset when you restart EM, but the hotkey is so much more convenient.

Lol!, so true. I've been attack several times, and accused of trolling because of ship bumping.

...Ship bumping... sorry, that doesn't even sound right, lol

I use it any time I'm doing a co-op ... even if I'm the first to reach the station, I manuever around to the opposite side of the docking bay. 'Cause I know the next guy in isn't going to be using the Alt key option. The only drawback is when docking at a carrier or construct station ... somehow I never remember to press F3 until I've slammed into the back wall.

My very first pVp was (me an MP noobie) with SeeJay . . . I bumped into him, thought with all the son et lumiere that I was being attacked so shot at him . . . the pVp lasted about 5 seconds - still I found it quick and easy to reload. Luckily the tinted glass in my cockpit hid my very very red face!
