Close calls in Evochron

Post by Zcoolman »

Hello,

I wanted to make this topic about close calls or near-death experiences like Barely got out alive, misses, Etc. So if you can recall what where they.

My close call was I made a jump error and almost crashed into an asteroid.
I have skype and oovoo if anyone has it if you do feel free to contact me.
My username on both:
xXZcoolmanXx. If you can\'t find it u2u me and I will give you my name to help find my profile.

I just keep forgetting that the despite throttling off, inertia still follows which direction I face until speed reaches zero so a number of times I have flown up to an asteroid, aimed along side it and throttled off intent on drifting on by as I decelerate and so turned in to face the roid only to find that I am then flying AT it.
Adrift in space, I\'m looking for the Jumpgate home but until then, I am a Mercenary!

 Usually, my close calls happen during spy contracts ... mainly because somebody else accepts the contract and I just blindly jump to the waypoint ... unaware that there's going to be a great, big Vonari battleship waiting at the exit point. Then, again, my near-death experiences don't happen nearly as often as my total-get-blown-up experiences.

My errors normally don't get me close, it's instant death with faceplants on asteroids or planets LOL!

Close calls for me is usually when in PvP and I have the enemy bursting in flames and I "drop my guard"
and move in to close when finishing him/her off, realizing that they still have full weapon functionality! Opps!

the first day in sapphire, testing the ship and navigation and jumpdrive - actually everything, i found that interesting looking 'x' on the map.
so lets jump there!
comming out of warp i hit something purple. - with pretty high g.
although beeing rather clueless i figured that i'm in trouble and got out in best kirk manner (without dropping the core though)
close call!
that feeling like a hero didn't last very long, though.
i didn't have realized that there is something like fuel. last games i played all the ships been driven by love and air.
so my very first talon started drifting into endless space. and it drifted quite a bit till i decided to reset my existence.

Last week I started training myself to be able to circle a target always facing inward. I was practicing inside an asteroid field. Got so focused on trying to maintain a constant distance that I completely forgot that the whole notion of the word "field" is that there is more than one.

All of a sudden I saw this dark eclipse of another asteroid pass right in front of my screen, filling it entirely in less than a second. My HUD reported that I was less than 50 kicks up and "falling" fast. The sight of the asteroids surface wizzing below me was actually scary. I pressed down hard on my reverse thrusters trying to push myself away from the looming surface.

I was down to less than 20 klicks before my ship started pulling back. Way cool to watch the asteroid receding.

Sadly, in all my excitement, I forgot that I still had my finger jammed on the reverse thruster. I was well into patting my own back when I smeared my ship across another rock.

Yin and yang, eh?

Mine is when I've done a scanning contract using a stealth generator so I can ignore the escorts - I finish the scan, move away from the capital ship and switch off the generator (all shields are totally depleted!). Recharge, jump . . . . . and realise I haven't locked on the the station so that when I reappear I'm heading at high speed straight into the capital ship and all it's escorts minus shields! :P

I was engaged in a multiplayer test (a rare event for me, playing multiplayer). Vice was there and a few other regulars. I was testing the turret feature for the first time, and Vice was sitting on my ship, acting as turret. I thought it was a great privilege, but I felt the pressure to perform well. Somehow, the battle had drained my shields and I was taking hull damage. I was about to die and I thought: what happens if I die while Vice is sitting in the gunner seat? It would look pretty bad.

Luckily, my ship had the deployment constructor on it.

Thinking relatively quickly, I deployed a shield generator to stop myself from dying that instant. I then deployed a repair station and limped in. I was probably down to about 10% hull or somewhere thereabouts, but I managed to survive.

After that, I just didn't get too close to the baddies, but kept my distance and speed up, as I normally would in single-player.

Many of us have been either at the very edge of a Fulcrum Torpedo explosion and taken no damage, or just enough in range to take some pretty heavy damage!:)

I made the mistake of entering a skype chat while flying in the general direction of the earth, was alt tabbed for about 5 minutes and came back just when I was about to drift into the kill zone at ~2500mps . needless to say I shouted some expletives as I hadn't saved in a bit and did a quick 180 and fired afterburners. a couple seconds later on hat and I probably would have been scattering debris all over my home town

I was mining in Sapphire on a new ship and forgot to change the default nav point. Jumped right at the station with barely any space to dodge...then I did it again literally right after
