For those of you running win xp, there is a fixed limit of 10 tcpip half open connections.
you can increase this limit with a tcpip.sys patcher avail here:

I set mine to 100 on my game machine and my private server machine.
I no longer get random disconnects on my game machine and my private
server now has better ping and stability than ANY of the public servers.

win7 is already good to go.
fixed limit is removed in win 7

Patched tcp.sys with a similar utility (if not the same )at a 50 limit some years ago. It's also fine. Beware Comodo firewall can detect it as a false malicious file.

good point! I should have mentioned that. antivirus does not like this patch as it modifies a system file
