Multiplayer Following/Autopilot?

Post by The_decaff »

So I recently got a buddy of mine into EM and so far he's liking it. However once we were done mining our plat and making tons of cash in the Agate system we were ready to start our own station away from civilization out in the "jungle". Long story short we kept losing each other he was running into enemies and I couldn't get to him in time, he dies. Is there an easier way we can travel/warp together without losing each other. We've tried "f" that works but you don't follow them through a jump. Somebody help me! I apologize if this is already a topic, I checked briefly and couldn't find anything.

Oh and also, It would be extremely useful to have an option to autosave when entering a station. That would have helped my friend tremendously last night hah. That has most likely been talked about before.

While you are both logged into a game via LAN/WAN, try using a clan tag in front of your pilot name. In other words, if your in-game pilot name is "The_decaff" you would put a tag in front of it like "[Clan] The_decaff"

You both would have to use the same clan tag in order for the game to recognize you as friendly/on the same side. Then when you accept a mission, as long as you are in the same system, then both players will receive the mission, and the same NAV waypoints so getting to each other won't be an issue. Also, you'll be able to spot each others location on the quadrant map as well, regardless of your distance by a little green dot to signify your friend.

Hope this helps :)

Welcome to the game and forums, and I hope to see you in MP sometime! :P

Quick save default is Alt-F9; it soon becomes second nature - the only time you can't use it is during a contract :)

If you both set the same destination coordinates you should be able to find each other; or use the tilde key to see a list of where everyone is on the RHS top of the screen

When one of you jumps through a gate, wait for tthe other to come through. You ca also station hop through a system so you are both at least going to the same place

There isn't a reliable built-in method of flying in tandem though :(

 Denny and I used to explore together all the time ... did the Quest for Peace that way. If you have the same class engine and the same coordinates plugged into your Destination windows ... and make sure you both are pointed in the direction of your Nav marker and have Inertial engaged. If you do that and then coordinate your first jump, your buddy should show up on radar at every hyper-exit point.

:o As for auto-saving when docking ... if I did that, I'd still be stuck waaaayyyyy out in the boonies.

Also save to a different name every so often. Other wise you can find yourself with a game saved right before you die, and not have anything to fall back on.

You can save into any of the 100 slots. Being a dummy I didn't relaise the save slots screen scrolled down! :D

I've tried to do that. And have succeeded. So, I can easily save to a different slot. But I don't seem to be able to do the "different name" part.

Here is what happens if I do "escape" and then "save to different profile" (I think that's the way it goes). Anyway, you get to the screen that shows your current profile. Usually the one at the top of column of slots for me.

If I click on a profile that I've created with a different name than my "normal" profile, it saves to that profile. BUT, it renames it to the same profile name as the one that I was using originally.

So, say I have two profiles. The first one named "Hot Pilot". The second one named "Miner Pilot". I start the game playing "Hot Pilot". Make some kills, do the occasional save (alt F9), life is good. Then, still using the Hot Pilot profile. I go do a bunch of mining. Find some great stuff, and do another save, but don't want to save it to Hot Pilot (just in case I want to get to that spot again because there was another few enemies I didn't finish killing : )

So, I hit escape and do a manual save to a different profile. Click onthe "Miner Pilot" to make the save. And it saves. But, it also renames Minor Pilot to Hot Pilot. Not really what I want.

Say I click on an empty slot. It doesn't give me an option to add a different name. Say, Miner Pilot 2. It just creates the profile using the same name as whatever I was using to fly with (in this case Hot Pilot).

What I end up having to do, after I exit the game, is go to pilot manager and "rename" any and all profiles. Of course by then I've forgotten which one was saved for what reason since they are all named the same.

Am I doing something wrong? I'd like to set up my profiles (pilots) in advance with the names that indicate what each profile is being used for. But, for now, it just renames them all the same and I have to go back later to rename them.

I'm pretty sure that Vice said that was just the way it worked. But, I'd love to have misunderstood him : )

Strange.

Thanks,

Tarl

That is, indeed, the way it works. Personally, I don't save in more than one extra slot at a time. Even then, I'm watering down my reputation.

Ok. At least I know I'm not doing anything wrong. And, I can easily live with it. More was just making sure I wasn't missing something.

Thanks,
