A question about wing systems...

Post by Dr Henry Killinger »

I'm a bit confused about the exact impact they have on your ship's ability to maneuver. I have seen information about them improving your ship's turning speed. Does this simply affect how quickly you change your ship's pitch, or does it affect how quickly your ship accelerates to the sides or vertically in order to compensate for your momentum?

I ask because I'm interested in improving my ship's maneuverability but I've seen that upgrading your engine only affects your max speed in IDS. I do the vast majority of my flying with IDS turned off or simply used as a brake so such an upgrade would be much less useful than in increase in acceleration.

Hi Doc, and welcome to the forums!

As I understand it, it helps with maneuvering, especially at high speeds and in atmospheres. So pretty much anything that has to do with maneuver, pitch, yaw, barrel rolls, etc;

:cool: The better the wing, the quicker you turn. On the bulkier civilian ships, a good wing can make a big difference. As seen on the chart at SeeJay's website.

So, wing systems work in space also, or only in atmosphere? I find it hard to figure out how additional shapes would help in space...

I think the wing system is more the vertical and horizontal thrusters, and the "wings" are more cosmetic.

:cool: Each wing carries a description for how and why it works better in space or in the atmosphere than lesser wings.
