I'd have been playing this game since it came out nearly ten years ago if it wasn't for the monthly fee. I'm afraid i'm too poor. :-p

I've played 7 times the 14 day tutorial and i have bought one month (around christmas they had an offer).

I agree with you.."if it wasn't for the monthly fee"...

i believe evochron mercenary suits me better though as a gameplay.

I played from around 2005 till 2011.
Tried running corps, being in other peoples corps, and being a loner.
It is not too difficult to make enough in-game credits to buy a pilots licence every month, thus not needing to spend any real money. You just need to have the trading skills and pay attention to the markets.
I gave up because I realised I just wasn't enjoying it any more.
If they expanded the universe so that there was enough room for there to be some actual space, like there was a few years ago, I might go back. But I doubt I would enjoy it now that Incarna has come out. Probably I'll submit to the nagging e-mails to reactivate my account one of these days.

after reading that review and after seeing most of the stuff written down as "bad" most of it i have no idea what your talking about and ive been playing since the beginging of 2005, as for "compleating the story" i didnt realise you could "finish the story" as the story is coninusly going on and there are many new events happening which can effect the story like the recent sansha invasions hosted by ISD where you can effect the outcome. there were also events like the blood raider arc back in 2006 the returning of the impirial apoc a bit before then the escourting of the chancilours freighter as well as the cult of tetrimon debacle the scientist defectio that did infact turn out to be an ingame event and many more. you just have to be around the right place at the right time.

as for the "better ship with better equipment wins" this could not be more false , there have been many times where a much smaller and inferior ship has been able to skill in order to defeat a larger oponant countless times, ive done it alot myelf.

this is however a True MMO meaning this is ment for team play , if you go in with a solo mentality you will find yourself lost and most likely board out of your skull with no clear goal or objective and the game is based around its PvP and industry this is mainly why the PVE content is so lacking apart fromt he addition of the recent incursions that have amazingly brought compleate strangers together to work as a team and make alot of money and Loyalty points , sometimes people go out in groups consisting of there own corp, some people join up with people they have never met and some tag along with there own alliance .

and i am going to stop here before i type out an entire review myself, but i do have to ask, how ong did you spend in gmae in order to do this review may i ask?

I tried it once, and the reason I quit real quick like was that I couldn't fly the ship. It was all automatic. All you had to do was push buttons. Battle Star galactica is freetoplay game and was better than eve, though its got its own problems. Evo beats everything i've played in a good long while hands down.

as eve o oldtimer and after reading your review i think we played 2 different games.

i can sign tiggy's post pretty much.
the player driven economy and infrastructure in zero space and its impact on the game seems to be nothing you ever heard of.
you know that new ships are built by players? from the day a blueprint is released by the devs till you fly it all the 'real' market /ressource and production things happen.
plex changed the acessability a bit in favour of people wih money.

your post prooves that the learning curve isn't as simple as you think. as a pvper and ex fleetcommander especially your pov regarding combat makes me smile a lot.

eve online is currently the only game that allows a 2nd life. (if you want so) from dumb grinding to economic, political and social interaction, as you possibly know it from real life, over poker to some challenging (open) pvp.
its a wolves game. its a brutal game. it can suck you up if you don't pay attention and once you figure its potential.
if there is one mmo out there worth a monthly fee, guess which one.

and the grafics are simply amazing for an mmo.

try again ;)

I forgot how long but it was for a good while. The only story line I could find was the sisters of eve one. Like there was some story lines that you can read on EVE site but you can't interact with the story and those stories are for free.
I think the biggest thing that got to me was the alts and the corrupt GM.
Anyways, I think I said on there my experience may be different from yours and I'm glade you posted something so some people sees some my like it.

I'm planing on playing EVE in the future and if things are different then I will write a different review.

Actually the learning curve was extremely easy for me and I was able to command a few fleets within a month of playing the game. I found most people don't care to be a leader because they want to be in the action.

Anyways, I admit the graphics is extremely great. I wish all games could have graphics as good as EVE.

Nice video. Anyways, I think I pointed out in the review the game get's boring if you do not play with the right people. The video you posted says that but with a little more length.
Again, nice video

I actually talked to EVE about that and they said it would be to hard to make the game like that.
I think it would be awesome having dog fights like this game.

I'm actually glad veteran gamers voiced their opinion as it once and for all sealed the deal for me. I don't think i'd like it. If it's boring doing your own thing solo, then there's no point in trying as I don't like people.:P

i'm glad you took my post easy.

the future of the game was just recently reshaped with a huge player protest (shooting monuments on a trading hub)
leading to an official excuse from the ceo, refocus on space and putting a stop on the 'walking in stations' project.
compared to you the majority of older players came to eve to exactly avoid avatars. nerds. space excel :D
you never have to leave a station for playing this game.

with customizing your ships you mean paint jobs etc?
else there are the modules and tech 3 to customize your arse off.

what do the gms bother you? ;) thats a few incidents in hundreds of systems with an average of 50k players online (when i stopped playing) over years. have you been affected?

eve has by far the smallest ammount of glitches i ever encountered in a game of such scale. (if there is any)

scamming and co make eve famous, imo. you are allowed to!
you infiltrate, you rob, you destroy. not per button, per charme and with a good story.

tell me any other game where hundreds (1500 is the record?) of people fight simultaneously in one system. mostly stable. you have no clue how good that developed. there are still problems especially in empire. but hey; one single universe on a cluster!
EA can't handle 64 people properly on a dedicated server.

you surely need a plan. an idea, a perspective. the skill system alone is layed out for years. (which drives most casual players away immediately) once getting clueless, nobody can help you.

edit: lol, raynor

It is kinda boring after a while if you play on your own unless if you love mining. But you should at least try the trail.

I didn't know about them putting a stop on the walking in stations. (To be honest I think I heard with every little change someone crying about it so I'm not shock some people protested it. I forgot what they called the major games but I rem when hydro won that game because everyone stop shooting and some girl just shot everyone up and there was a big protest where a bunch of people were shooting at something for weeks in game)

Well with customizing the ships I do mean paint but I also mean texture and making your own ship. There is a lot of ships in the game but when your in a corp every one tends to fly the same ship and while it seems cool at first, it's kinda boring seeing 30 of the same ship in the same fleet.

As far as the GM yes I did have one bug me at the end of my time. When you hear story after story after story of GM messing with people for little to no reason it seems like BS. But when it happens to you it starts to kick in most to all of those stories could've been true. But, what the GM did to me wasn't a reason why I quit. Nothing happening to the GM was one of the reasons why I quit. Like it told me they can do anything they want to you and you can't do nothing back. (They made it where my guns wouldn't work and their friends found me every 5 min and blow me out of the sky in 1 shot. After 8 times you know for a fact that that's not a glitch)
(I'm not that big into MMO so I'm not sure if this happens a lot in other MMO)

Again, I'm not to big in MMO and I never heard of any game being as big as EVE. One thing I loved when I played the game was everyone is on the same server.

Not to dig up a dead post, but I've been playing EVE since 2008 and it is very likely the best game I've ever played. I think the reason most people hate it is because there is too much to learn for it to be fun (especially within the window of 14 days)! Eve is designed to take years away from your life, not weeks.

I barely liked the game during my 14-day trial. Then my coworker made me buy my first three months (at a discount of course). In that 3 months, I learned to absolutely love the game. Since then, my appreciation for its staggering level of detail and immersion has grown exponentially. There is always something going on and always something to do. And you can play the game a dozen or so different ways if you get bored doing one thing.

Also, in response to RugerSP101, everything is automatic if you want to it done the easy way. Learning to fly your ship manually will not only deduct serious noob points, but it will also make travelling way more efficient ;)

And you CAN walk around in the space stations. Right now, you can walk around your (rather large and luxurious) captain's quarters. There is a door that goes to the rest of the space station that is inoperative until the next major update, at which time they will allow us to go in there and mingle n' stuff with other pilots.

Oh, and for the record, I'm playing Evochron because I'm taking a break from EVE. My level 2 Machariel (pro-fitted) ($100 battleship) was ganked by pirates in nullsec. Sooo...yeah I basically rage-quitted for a while. xD

Anyway, my only hangup with EVE is that it's not first person like Evochron. :) Go Evochron.

That was the first question I asked, way back when. Personally, I wouldn't touch any game where I had to play as a puppeteer.

I tried out the 14 day trial myself a few weeks ago and I love the size of the universe but my only gripe I share with Sasha and that the ships aren't controllable on a personal level ala Evochron or any classic space combat game with in the cockpit control with joystick or any controller. The point and click style rubbed me off oh and losing ships constantly. Other than that good game, just not willing to pay for a subscription fee already been there done that LOL.:D:P

I personally feel that whoever can make a twitch based MMO flight sim that has the mechanics of Mercenary with the size of universe of EVE will take over the world.

I hope it's evochron and I'm confident that it will happen it's just the hardware and software isn't quite there just yet.

without a penalty system this is not going to happen. in the end its the 'thrill' that keeps people addicted. else i'd sign that last statement!
the next eve-o expansion btw looks very promising. best in years.
all the latest tech demos make me drool anyway.

Played it the first time for about 2 or 3 months.. then they released a few more patches and I got into it again for about a year. It just got way too much of the same old thing over and over..

I built up two separate characters (yes, paid for both) and ran two games simultaneously etc etc..

It was fun.. for a while.. then as I got further and further into the game it became more and more boring as well as pointless. I didn't see myself ever getting into full-on pvp.. and the pve stuff just didn't really go anywhere beyond the same missions over and over.

I had manufacturing and mining operations running, bringing in millions of ISK daily.. but it just got boring/tedious.

It is a good game.. with a very active community but it lacks any real exploration goals.. even wormhole space is not really my idea of exploration.. so I keep biding my time until the day they make it into a game I might like.

I know I haven't. I couldn't make it through the 14 day trial for EVE. I don't like spreadsheets and I don't like point and click combat. The large battles would seem exciting , till you realize you just end up looking at a bunch of dots due to the lag. I think the economy is fantastic, the fact that it is completely player driven is amazing.

The expansions don't really bring anything new and unique, much as any mmo these days.

judging the expansion if not even playing? from betaset much? ;)

ingame grafics

the killerlags of fleetfights, btw, got fixed half a year ago with time deceleration.

i resubbed for inferno, specifically faction warefare. best expansion in the years i'm playing.
gfx: A+ as always. the scale of rockets vs. torpedos or cruise missiles is a bit off, atm. else the new launchers are some eye candy.
new war dec and fw system with a lot more transparency and options. both will have quite some impact on the game.
best part in my humble oppinion are the new fw mechanics. it will be tested the next weeks.
a lot of critics over the new inventory. am no industrialist - i like it.
new modules, not tested yet.
several new shipdesigns and overhauls.

it feels like a giant candy box to discover again and again...
more to come
