Does particle cycle rate == beam cycle rate?

Post by TJJ »

It's well known & clearly explained that particle & beam ranges are linked. However I was wondering if the cycle rate is also linked. (as beam weapons themselves have only a yield).

It seems a plausible explanation as to why the icespear outperforms the maxim-r so dramatically, when on paper it shouldn't.

Yes, TJJ, the laser cannon is on a recharge cycle, sort of like the particle cannon's cyclic rate of fire. Whereas, the particle cannon's performance envelope includes real-time effects like rounds per minute/cyclic rate of fire and heat effects. The laser cannon builds and releases energy pulses akin to the particle weapon. In a cycle. Fire and reload/recharge. The cannon relay and heatsink assists in the operation of both primary weapons. Managing the power grid between particle and beam weapons and cooling the barrels. The greater the yield on the beam weapons, the more immediate damage to shields. To a point, the greater the yield on particle weapons, the greater the immediate effect on armor. Here, I'll not debte/discuss relative merits, or possible less meritorius aspects of each or any. Please don't forget the energy footprint on your ships' resources. That's all I'm sayin' ;)

yep and yep. the faster cycle also increases hits per second and accuracy, so this is another reason that the icespear leads to more joyous results, despite the fact that the max-r seems "obviously" better.
