First off, I'd like to say how much I thoroughly enjoy the game so far. It's extremely fun and unique, and I can't wait to get into it more with a better understanding. I started this thread mainly because I have just a few questions I'd like to ask, but also to say hello and introduce myself to the forums! Forgive me if I mention something that has already been asked, which I'm sure I will, but here are my few questions:
1.) Do contracts and missions change based on if you picked Miner/Trader vs. Mercenary vs. etc. vs. etc.? Like, are there completely different tasks? If so, which do you guys enjoy the most?
2.) Sometimes when I get a contract, I'll make a navigation point somewhere else and lose the waypoint set from the contract stopping me from jumping to it. Is there any way to set the coordinates back to it's contract's original one it gave you if you lost them?
3.) When it comes to distress calls, I've gathered from forum searching that sometimes you can't answer them because you're extremely far away, but they'll still show up anyway. Am I right in that? Also, if a distress call happens that you are able to answer, it'll say something like local coordinates, meaning you're in the area and it allows you to go there. If that's the case, what should I be looking for?
4.) I feel this question is just something I'll figure out on my own eventually, but will I be able to get to other quadrant's easily the more I play?
5.) The planet landscape looked amazing in the little trailer, but on mine it looks just alright. I run everything on as high as it can be, but it still doesn't look as smooth as the trailer. Is there something that I can do about that. I built the computer I have now, and I know it's capable of maxing this game's settings.
6.) As far as gameplay advancement, should I just keep getting contracts and completing them, or is it more rewarding to explore planets and other parts of the galaxy for different things. I feel like I shouldn't go far away from where I started, but I'm not sure. For example, is there any particular order, or could I have from the start just blasted off as far as I could and the game would progress just the same?
I'm pretty sure I'm missing some questions that were troubling me, but I suppose they'll come to me on this upcoming 9 hour Evochron Mercenary marathon I'm about to have. Anyway, hopefully I didn't bombard with too many questions, and I appreciate the help in advanced. The game is amazing, and I look forward to being a part of this community!
I'm new to the game, and I love it. Questions, though.

I think i can answer #5: Some of the planets look better then others, so you may have just not seen the ones in the trailer yet (just a guess though). Eaither way though, Vice (the creator of the game) is currently working on an expansion that HUGELY updates the planets. Here's a link to his development section (it has pictures): http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmerce ... opment.htm

Hi Kruce, welcome to the game and forum!...Hope to see you out there some time!....

1. I believe the most popular and best way to start is as A Mercenary and then it becomes easier to become or do what ever you want. You can start as any role you want and switch to another role. The choices at the beginning are there just so you can get a feel for the different aspects of the game. It's main title is Mercenary for a reason so that should give you a clue as what is best to start at!
2. For this read the tutorial for New players about Navigation. Once you loose the original set waypoint for a mission the only way to set it close to the original is to look for a light blue rectangle on your Nav Map and then click on it in both top view and rear view!
3. Yes, and also you can turn the distress calls of in one of your consoles! It is difficult to answer Distress calls in the time given. Distress calls are emergency calls and there is a critical time limit before complete dissaster!
The distress call usssualy involves taking some emergency supplies to a certain Planet or Station. So you need time to find the supplies needed and then have the time to deliver the emergency supplies before the critical time expires to the given Coordinates, Planet or Station. You will be lucky if the disstress call is near and you have the needed supplies aboard your ship!....
4. Yes, you can use jumpgates to jump from system to system and use higher class jumpdrives to jump more then one sector at a time!....
5. Make sure you have your Graphics card settings set to High Quality if you want better looking Graphics. You might have it set to performance!
6. This is completely up to you! Leaving Saphire however when you are not quite ready can get you killed very easily. So I suggest do some minning/trading/contracts to earn credits and get the highest and best equipment and frame you can get in Saphire and when you have about 5 million in credits go explore and find better frames equipment and stuff and get some combat practice in a system where there are not alot of enemies, you are going to need it!......

Thanks for the quick response and answers! I started as a miner/trader because I'm more into the whole exploring thing more than combat and stuff, but if I were to want to change it, how would I do that? Do you think it wasn't a wise decision to start as a miner trader, and what other kinds of things would I be doing as a mercenary rather? Eek, I just want the full experience!

Miner/Trader is also fine to start with! As a Mercenary you would be doing more then just mining and trading, you would do contracts/missions and improve your reputation in the different systems. You do not have to do anything special to change from Mining/Trader to Mercenary. You can change your role at any time by just doing contracts and missions besides trading and mining. Also to get the full Experience of the game do the IMG Quest!

So if I wanted to be a mercenary, I'd just have to do quests that mercenaries do instead? Like there isn't anything extra that picking "Mercenary" at the beg. would give vs. just looking at contracts now? Also, what's the IMG Quest! Haha. Sorry I'm being such a freaking noob, though I do appreciate your help quite a lot. I can tell this community will be awesome. From post: 128069, Topic: tid=8735, author=Maarschalk wrote:Miner/Trader is also fine to start with! The IMG quest amounts to some text you will notice when you first start a game. The text directs you to New Hope where you will notice that you can accept contracts that are specifically ***IMG Contracts***.
Don't quote me on this but I believe they are simply a sequence of contracts that are designed to introduce you to all aspects of the game, exploration, combat and all the non-combat contracts. Over the course of the IMG quests you will be notified of certain secret stashes and hidden points of interest that you would otherwise not know about if you hadn't been doing the IMG quests.
If you go to the news console and press the "last quest message" button you can review the last quest message sent to you so you know what to do if you haven't been doing the IMG contracts for a while.
As for your first point. There aren't specifically "mercenary" quests. Choosing your role simply outfits you at the start of the game with a better loadout to facilitate combat/mining or exploration. The mercenary starts with the most money and a civ ship with no mining/tractor beam, so essentially its the "free to do what you want" class to choose. This is in contrast to the fighter pilot role where you will begin in a warzone with the first military ship.
Hope this helps.
