Save file/mod question

Post by mustafa2812 »

Hello,
I am a new to evochron via steam so sorry if I don't know much. My problem is that I downloaded Warsign's flora mod and followed the instructions to the dot. I also changed the name of my evochron mercenary folder from what it was "sw3dg" to "evochron mercenary" (because that made sense to me). I went in game to test the mod and my save files had been seemingly deleted. I am playing under a new save file now but I still want to mod my game. It seems that I have the newly renamed "evochron mercenary" folder now and a new "sw3dg" folder. Im not sure if the mod or the fact that I renamed the folder messed with my save files but I want to get this sorted out. I have a feeling that the game is reading off of the new "sw3dg" folder and that the "evochron mercenary" folder has my old save data on it and its just not being read by the game because it's named something different. I would like some feedback on this though. Also I would like to know what the save data is called in the "sw3dg" folder. I can't quite figure it out and I want to back up my saves before I mod any more. Hopefully this makes sense but I can clarify if needed. Thanks

Save file/mod question

Post by Viper »

Hi mustafa.

You have accidentally put the mod files in the wrong folder. The folder you put them in (the one you renamed) is located at C:/ and is called 'sw3dg' by default. This folder holds another folder called 'EvochronMercenary', which in turn holds all your savegames, maplogs, key setups and a couple of other similar files.

The folder you should have put the mod files in, is located in your program files. By default, the path is C:/Program Files/EvochronMercenary/...

If you do this, it will work.

About your savegames: all is not lost. If you simply rename your old sw3dg folder (the one you renamed to 'evochron mercenary' back to 'sw3dg', you will probably still have your old savegames (and profiles). That is, if they haven't gotten deleted for some reason.
What's more, if you copy your current profile from the 'new' sw3dg folder and put it in the one you renamed, you will also be able to use the profile you are using now.

Good luck and if it still won't work, give us a call! ;)

Save file/mod question

Post by mustafa2812 »

Since I got the game from steam it seems that I have the "sw3dg" folder and on down the path of C:/programfiles(x86)/steam/steamapps/common/evochronmercenary there is my steam evochron folder. And that folder has some files that look like save files like "systemdata.dat" and "techdata.dat" and "evochrondata.evo" Im not sure what's what though. And Im pretty sure that the newly renamed folder "evochron mercenary" in C: probably has my old saves on it and I could probably transfer them over if I knew what they were called. So if I mod the game I should put the mods in the steam folder?

To tell you the truth, I did not get the game from Steam, so I'm not too familiar with how steam manages the game's folders. But judging on what you wrote I would say that
C:/programfiles(x86)/steam/steamapps/common/evochronmercenary
this path is what would normally be C:/Program Files/EvochronMercenary/..., so that would be the correct folder to put your mod files in.
Im pretty sure that the newly renamed folder "evochron mercenary" in C: probably has my old saves on it and I could probably transfer them over if I knew what they were called.
The savegame, key setup, maplog etc files are called for example 'buttonmap0', 'keymap4', 'maplog3', 'pilot7', and similar. Once you have found them, I think it would be best to just copy all of them and put them in C:/sw3dg/EvochronMercenary (this path will probably also be called slightly different since you're using Steam, but try to find something similar).

Renaming folders can lead to future problems when the game updates as it may not look in the changed folder.:(

Save file/mod question

Post by mustafa2812 »

I do have a folder C:/sw3dg/evochronmercenary so that's not a problem. So let me get this straight. There is a "pilot0.sw" in the folder that I mistakenly renamed. That is probably my old save file. If I transfer that file into my C:/sw3dg/evochronmercenary folder then it should transfer my save file? And the keymap and maplog is probably my joystick and keyboard button modifications and stuff right? So I have a "pilot0.sw" and a "pilot1.sw" in my C:/sw3dg/evochronmerceary folder and those are my two current save games (even though I deleted one of them recently). correct me if Im wrong. I think I'm getting it. I just have to make super special sure because corrupting save files or even whole games is not a fun thing haha.

Yes, Pilot0.sw is the pilot in the first slot when the game starts and you choice a pilot profile. You have 100 slots on that screen to save to and the files you would see in the game folder (if you had a save in each of the 100 slots) would be numbered 0.sw to 99.sw as they start with the "0" instead of a "1".

So you have everything working now?

I'd just like to point out a mistake I made in one of my earlier posts. I mentioned to you that
The folder you should have put the mod files in, is located in your program files. By default, the path is C:/Program Files/EvochronMercenary/...
This is incorrect. The default path is C:/sw3dg/EvochronMercenary.

I have installed the game to the path I mentioned in the quote though, because I found it confusing that the actual program as well as the save files were by default located in the same paths, and I like to have all my programs running from the same location.

Save file/mod question

Post by BardRT »

For some reason I cannot fathom, I don't HAVE any maplogn files in my C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary folder.

The pilotn.sw and savedata.txt files are there, but no maplog files are being generated. They're also not in Q:\\steam\\steamapps\\common\\evochronmercenary (I looked just in case).

Anyone have any idea what's wrong?

Is there a setting I need to turn on in game?

If it matters, my savedatatsettings.txt file looks like this:

5000 CR LF
c:/sw3dg/EvochronMercenary/CR LF
empty line

You might not have any yet. I think the first one gets created once you enter some data in your Nav Map log in the game!.....;)
