Three questions in one! Speed/Distance and rank.

Post by Ora »

Alright, so I have three questions. Two have to do with rank, and I will ask those first. The third having to deal with the speed and distance system of the game.

1. What is the maximum Civilian rating? I don't want an answer like "Legendary". I know it's Legendary. I want the numerical value.

2. Same question as question 1, except dealing with Military rank.

3. It's my understanding that the measurement units in this game are all meters. So let's say, for example, that I am in space. There is a cargo container 1000m away from me. I am traveling directly towards it at 1000m/ps. By all logic, it should take me exactly one full second to get there, right? But in this game, if that scenario were to happen, it would take me many seconds to get there. Why is that? Have I misunderstood the units of measurement used in this game?

Thanks in advance.

1. No maximum.
2. No maximum
3. eh, math.

Seriously, the ranks don't have an achievable maximum. I am sitting around 74K in Civ, and 4k Military, and I know of one pilot with 150k Civilian rating.

For specific point scoring for each rank (thanks to SeeJay for previously posting this):

CIV - Rookie (0-24)
CIV - Novice (25-99)
CIV - Competant (100-499)
CIV - Skilled (500-999)
CIV - Advanced (1000-1999)
CIV - Expert (2000-2999)
CIV - Master (3000-4999)
CIV - Superior (5000-7499)
CIV - Veteran (7500-9998)
CIV - Legend (>9998)

MIL - Trainee (0-4)
MIL - Ensign (5-24)
MIL - Lieutenant Jr. Grade (25-49)
MIL - Lieutenant (50-99)
MIL - Lieutenant Commander (100-149)
MIL - Commander (150-249)
MIL - Captain (250-499)
MIL - Commodore (500-749)
MIL - Admiral (750-998)
MIL - Fleet Admiral (>998)

As for movement, speed is indeed 'mps', coordinate units are in D/M, so a container 1000 coordinate units out ahead of you would take about 10 seconds to reach at 1000 mps.

I see. Thanks everyone! Especially you, Vice, for giving us this wonderful game.

But what is D/M? At first I thought you meant Decimeters, but then I thought about that for a second and realized that would make me get there even faster.

Yup, decimeters would make the trip much faster, 1-tenth of a second. It's decameters, basically 10 meters per unit.

Hi, guys!

I'm not 100% sure, 1 decimeter is how many kilometers? Thanks!!

Decimeter is not used here Cheri.

I think that Vice tried to explain that the unit used is DecaMeters.
1 Coordinate unit = 10 meters
1000 Coordinate unit x 10 = 10000 meters.

Time = Distance/Speed = 10000/1000 = 10seconds;)

ah, good info right here, I had always wondered about the units a bit. Kinda curious why distances are displayed as tens of meters? Sounds a bit silly measure o_O

This should be added to the New Player Info, learn something new every day or I'm just having another Yoda moment! About the Coordinate units that is.....;):P:cool:

I have been wondering about this myself, good to have it explained.

Edit:
I recommend this to be added to DaveK's guide as well.

Kinda curious why distances are displayed as tens of meters?
Mostly just to help keep coordinate entry a little more manageable so players don't have to try and keep track of too many zeros when plotting nav/jump points, tens of thousands being a little easier to manage than hundreds of thousands.

and thank you for this! we already enter enough numbers when plotting jumps sometimes.

I suppose you're right. It's probably just my SI-system accustomed head being stubborn with not understanding/"thinking it's illogical" "almost" metric system ;)

Three questions in one! Speed/Distance and rank.

Hi, Seejay!

So, 1,000 coordinate units=10,000 meters and 1 sector=200,000,000 coordinate units=2,000,000,000 meters or 2,000,000 kilometers, am I correct? So how many kilometers is 1 decameter? I'm just not to sure how the units is used in the game and it is very confusing. Thanks!!

It depends on the amount of Vonari kills and amount of waypoints completed succesfully you need a total of 150 points!
10 enemy kills count for 1 point and every way point counts for another point. So if you do a five waypoint mission involving 60 enemies to be killed then upon succesfull completion of that mission you get 11 points so do 14 of those missions and you should be al set.....;):P:cool:

1 sector=200,000 units=2,000,000 meters=2,000 Kilometers!

1 Coordinate unit = 1 Decameter = 10 Meters

1 Decameter = 10 Meters. So 1 Kilometer = 100 Decameters!.....relatively speaking ofcourse...;)

 I prefer to work in sectors and sub-sectors.
  • At a speed of 1000, you travel 100 subsectors per second.

This ratio holds at any speed.
  • 100 subsectors per second equals 6000 subsectors per minute.
  • 6000 subsectors per minute equals 360,000 subsectors per hour.
  • 360,000 subsectors per hour equals 1.8 sectors per hour.
  • Ergo, if your speed indicator reads 1000, you are traveling 1.8 sectors per hour.
  • To determine your speed in sectors per hour, you multiply what's displayed on your indicator by .0018.
  • To calculate subsectors per minute, multiply what's displayed on the indicator by 6.
 For example, you run out of fuel and are drifting at 1800. At that rate, you will drift 10,800 subsectors per minute, or 3.24 sectors per hour.

Hi, Maarschalk!

Oh, okay! I get it now! So, 1 sector is 2,000 kilometers. So, like for example, Emerald system which is at -3200 and -550 which is 6,400,000 kilometers by 1,100,000 kilometers away from Sapphire system. Thanks for the explanation!

Is this from Center to Center?

1. If so then it is impossible to measure by flying the distance. On both sides you die before even getting close to the center!

2. Measuring the distance by mathematical equations to be exact you have to know the exact nano second/minute/hour/day/month/year of the measurement since the earth rotates at approximitely faster then the speed of sound(circumference/24h aproximately) and moves around the sun even faster then that(Earths orbital circumference around the sun/1year). I'm sure given all the exact data DaveK will be able to figure it out for any given exact time to the nanosecond......;):P:P:P:P:P:P:P:cool:

Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that it is all relative!.....;):P:cool:
