Evochron Mercenary vs Arvoch Alliance

Hi I'm an old time space sim player looking to get back into the genre. I was big into space sims back in the freelancer, ev nova, x-wing vs tiefighter days and have been out of it for a while. I started looking around for whats available in this genre and found Evochron Mercenary. What I was wondering is between that and Arvoch Alliance which one would be the best to start with. I like the idea of a predetermined mission set in Arvoch but I also like the sandbox system in Evochron. One thing I was wondering is after completing the missions in Arvoch does the game have the same sandbox system as Evochron? Thanks for any help.

"Welcome Aboard NickiX"....Arvoch Alliance is awesome in the fact that it is mission orientated but does not turn into a sandbox...you can go online and do MP with it. Evochron Mercenary is even better...I like them both, but I am partial to EM and later on there is a planned expansion. Hope this helps you.

If I had a limited amount of time, I would prefer Arvoch. I like the combat just that much more, and the missions give you a goal. With more time, you cant been the EM community on MP. So its really a personal choice depending on taste and circumstance. Both are fun.

My opinion is really if you prefer to play through a predetermined story (Arvoch Alliance) or to make your own story (Evochron Mercenary).

The quality of both games is top-notch. I'd just argue that even though Evochron is sandbox and the MP is in an MMO style it doesn't fall into the trap of REQUIRING huge time investments to feel like you have actually achieved something.

Contracts are quick to complete when you have become familiar with the combat and when you find the right trade routes it doesn't take more than 20 minutes to make 100's of millions of credits.

Even though I'm pretty busy I find Evochron lets me jump in for maybe 30mins to an hour at a time to get my combat fix or make some money.

I suggest this because it would be a shame for you to go through the missions of Arvoch and be aching for more but not have access to it, whereas in Evochron you can decide your own fate and build your own (or your clan's) universe even if it's one space station at a time

You can't go wrong with either one but I would buy Evochron Mercenary! You will never regret it hours of fun in Multiplayer or single player. 11 different EM servers and players from nice to hostile.

Star King really means players playing 'nice and hostile roles'. I can assure you that you will find all players to be friendly and helpful.

If you like to script your own battles and missions, keep in mind that Arvoch Alliance has a scripting tool for doing just that.

Welcome NickiX. I like ur metaphors: predetermined & sandbox. they adequately describe the nature of both sims. I'm currently occupying my retirement years playing both sims alternatively when i'm not vacationing, playing with my wife and day trading. I like the idea of earning more credits in virtual money than I am in USD. Good Luck Pilot
