Gunner/Pilot, Navmap, and Voice Chat Questions

Post by zonaiko »

I figured I should post all my questions in one thread for ease of answering. (Who am I kidding? It'll be easier for me to see all the answers. :D)

Gunner/Pilot: So I really like the way ships can link up, but riddle me this. Is it possible for one ship to blow up and not the other, or do they both go down together every time? Also, when ships are linked, I understand that the pilot only has access to particle/beam weapons, and the gunner has access to all weapons. Does that mean the gunner has access to the pilot's missiles that he can't use? And do the two ships share any other resources? Like whose shields does it use, or do they combine to become stronger? And if one person has a cannon relay system/etc., do both get the benefit from it? I mainly use it with my friend for easy nav jumping, so we don't have to call out coordinates. Which leads me into my next question...

Navmap: Is there a good navmap mod out there that you'd recommend for newbies? I can navigate the map just fine, but I was wondering if there are any useful mods out there that makes it... well, better, in any sense. Also, is there any way to send a nav coordinate to another player? For example, instead of saying "Meet at XYZ" over voice chat, can you just send the coordinate directly to their map? Or link it in chat somehow? That'd be cool if you could. Which brings me to my next question...

Voicechat: I can't seem to get in the in-game voicechat to work, so I use Vent with my friend. I have Windows 7 with a USB headset, and my headset mic is selected as my default input device. Does it need to be plugged directly into my mainboard/sound card audio jacks for it to work? (It has the ability to do that if I take it off the USB adapter.) Or is there something else I need to do? Any troubleshooting ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Zonaiko, you had a couple things wrong here, sir. The pilot is the one who has access to all weapons. The gunner just has guns, and a bit of sea-sickness. The pilot can be killed and the gunner will pop out intact, sometimes several sectors away. The gunner provides only the guns, the pilot provides all other resources.

No navmap mod that I am aware of.

No idea on the audio issue.

Hope to see you back out there!

You can try selecting a different input device directly with the game. To try different devices, create a text file in the game's install folder named SOUNDINPUT.TXT and in the first line enter a numerical value starting with 1. In the second line enter the number 100. Save the file. Launch the game and test. If a value of 1 in the first line doesn't get it to work, try 2, then 3, and so on until you find the device slot that picks up input from your mic. The game should usually be able to find the default input device on its own, but sometimes manually forcing various device slots with this option can help. If that doesn't work, plugging it in directly to your sound device's mic port would indeed be another step to try. Just be sure to delete/backup the soundinput.txt file before testing that option so that the game uses default settings.

Thanks for the replies, guys. That covers everything. :)

Vice, I'll test out your recommendation later. I got full confidence that it will work, though. :)

 Not everything. There's a "button" on the left side of the Nav map for transmitting your current location. Also, for clan pilots in the same sector, you can push the Ping button on the right side of the map and your position will show up as a little green dot.

Also on the Voice chat, if you think it is not working it is because your not in the same sector as the other players using voice chat. You have to be in the same sector as the other players I believe!.....;)
