[EM] keyboard key(s) not recognized

Post by RedmocBez »

Hi all!

I'm wondering if anyone else has had a problem with the [ key not being recognized? I've had to change [ and ] to F11 and F12.

This happens to me in EM v1.508 and v1.588. I clear the [ key entry in Options, but it does nothing when I try to re-enter it, as though that key on my keyboard is not working (but it is, in other applications). I've tried two different keyboards, one wired, one wireless. It gets weirder...

BTW, in case it matters, both keyboards I tried are HP's own, with one being typical (almost identical to the EM Keyboard Quick Reference diagram) and the other slightly 'squeezed' with the Insert/PageDown area in just two columns (which rather confuses me when trying to look around quickly, but that's a didfferent matter). For both keyboards, the [ and ] keys are positioned above the ' and # keys (I'm in the UK).

Within the config screen, neither the [ nor ' keys are recognised, the # key generates the ] symbol and the ] key generates [ (but only if I have first cleared the existing ] entry from the list). Could it be because I'm using a non-US keyboard layout, or is it my PC which is confusing EM do you think? It's a minor flaw, so no biggy if no one knows.

My PC system:
HPE-595uk standard specs, which are...
Intel i7-2600 3.40GHz CPU, 6GB RAM, Win7 Premium (64bit), GeForce GTX 460.

p.s. For non-UK ppl who aren't familiar with this keyboard layout, the characters on the keys are paired thus:
[ with {
] with }
' with @
# with ~

Hi RedmocBez, welcome to the game and forum. I'm not familiar how the UK keyboards work with the game but I thought it was the same as the US. Are you sure you have no conflicting keys assigned to same key fuctions or short cut keys enabled and asigned to different functions?....Hope you get it working and hope to see you out there some time.....;):cool:

I just thought of something else, also make sure Caps Lock is not on when asigning Keys!
The rest should just be asigning the right keys to the right commands without conflicts of asignments......;):cool:
