Purpose of a licence?

Hello, can anyone tell me the purpose of the licences purchased on station, are they for collecting bounties and are they tied to the station you bought them from?
I bought one hopeing for some info but all i got was a hole in my bank account

licences allow you buy that station's products at a discount, which is good for trading, and also makes it so that you cant be attacked while at the station. and that's pretty much it. And yes they are tied to individual stations.

Cheers mate, could be useful but probably not the best place to buy one, i see the options there to cancel it what would the benifit of that be?

canceling it just means you wasted your money buying it, basically. It is useful to have a few for trade routes, and any station you build gives you a license, but it's not really too much of an immediate concern.

One thing to watch though is that you also get 25% knocked off when you sell things at your licensed station - so buy a licence, buy goods, fly to another station, sell goods, fly back and repeat!

Also con't knock the protection - its very useful in hostile systems
